Hollow point testing on XD45 Service (warning- a boring post)

There was nothing scientific in my testing.

I shot 50 rounds of Black Hills 185gr JHP first. Very mild load. I thought I'd get a lot more snap from this load, but it was really mild and easy to shoot. Accuracy was excellent at 7 yds. Zero malfunctions.

Next load was 50 rounds of Winchester 230gr JHP in the white box marked Personal Protection. Zero malfunctions. Accuracy was again excellent. Recoil felt about the same as shooting standard 230 FMJ.

Next I shot 50 rounds of Remington UMC 230gr JHP (from the 100 round Bulk Pack).
Zero mis-feeds, Accuracy was excellent (7 yds). Recoil was the same as the Winchester.

I'm really beginning to enjoy shooting the lesser expensive 50 round boxes of JHPs. I can practice much more and at far less a cost. I feel very comfortable using the bulk packs as a primary self defense round. 33.00 for 100 rounds is an awesome deal for JHP ammo.

If anyone is thinking of shooting these rounds in your XD, they should function fine, but be sure to test them in your XD too.

Nice post. I'll have to check out the Remington UMC 230gr JHP bulk packs.

I wanted to add that the Black Hills ammo seemed to have very little flash. Although I was shooting in daylight, there was virtually no smoke as compared to the other types I shot.

Another thing--I did not report that I shot 50 rounds of Winchester Silvertips 185gr JHP. A little bit more recoil than the Black Hills loads, although it is purely from what I felt and not measured. ZERO mis-feeds. Accuracy was also excellent.
