Safe to dry fire?

I tried the search function but dry isn't 4 plus letters It's completely safe to dry fire the XD without risking it breaking, right?

I was at the range today taking my wife out for the first time when I met a cowboy who said I'd wreck my XD if I continued to dry firing with it.

btw, here's her first 10 shots from the xd9sc:

Do a search and you will get a lot of info. If you dryfire a lot, use a snap cap.

I use snap caps....but only because I am insain....You know...like I have to count to twenty every time a see a ground squirrel.

Personally I don't think it will do any harm, but I will go with what the guy above me said.

i use snap caps i think that when you dryfire the xd the firingpin hits the fireing pin role pin the (hole on the top of the slide behind the loaded chamber inducater and after many many times it "might" break

Yeah, I tried searching here and didn't find anything with the search function. Went through a few pages and probably missed a thread or two on it. I'll google it up and call SA tomorrow about it.

Hey, nice site there too. I wouldn't mind getting some trigger work done and the xd9 and the wife wouldn't mind gettin' the slide release eased up a bit.

Anyway thanks for the quick replies everyone <33

A nifty way to search the forums without using the terrible built-in search feature...

Go to Google and do a search for
site:http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ YOUR SEARCH TERMS

This will show all google results from only this site based on your search terms. Or just go to http://www.google.com/search?q=site:...lk.com/forums/ and add your search terms to the search box.

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:...rums/+dry+fire
shows 262 results for "dry fire"... and the results are sorted by relevance.

Dry fire only with snap caps.

I've had to send in my gun, XD 45 Compact, to SA to get a warranty service, because the rolling pin became loose after repeated dry firing using a dummy round opposed to a snap cap that has an internal spring that dampens and slows the firing pin.

Again if you dry fire I would recommend you only do it with a snap cap.
