Colt New Agent

After shooting the Colt New Agent one word comes to mind pain… and it is what shooting this is like when you almost exclusively shoot the XD-9.

After the first two magazines I got maybe 3/14 shots on an 8 ½ X 11” paper at 15 feet. Getting use to this sight style took almost 50 rounds; the trick is aiming up slightly. If you try to shoot with the slide as level as possible you have to aim about 6 inches high. Even after that I am not 100% on how to center the shot as far as up and down were concerned but, on the other hand the centering the shots as far as left and right were concerned it was very effective.

After I started to get a hang of it I was able to put almost a whole magazine in about a 1 – 1 ½” group in the center of the target. Not bad for me (a noob to 1911 shooting let alone with out standard sights).

Now back to the pain after the first two magazines I was hurting so I put it away. Brought it back out and put six more magazines through it and I would have kept going but DAMN it hurt so much. The webbing between my thumb and my index finger was a nice shade of red and the grip safety left a pretty little imprint of it self there so I would remember it.
In this picture taken right after shooting you can see what I mean

In this picture you can see the marks still present 4 hours after shooting

All in all this was a BLAST to shoot and it is one hell of a gun! It will make a great light weight carry gun just not a great plinker/competition gun. Thanks for reading!

High grip and no beavertail in my experience equals this. Shot an RIA at my local range and ended up with a a little bit of blood coming up right in the web betweenmy thumb and forefinger, kept on gripping high and my hand didn't learn its lesson. The 1911 was fun to shoot but I prefer a beavertail grip safety on mine.

A year before I was able to shoot a Sig GSR, it had the beavertail and I had no pain and I shot some great groups at 25ft. The RIA was good and probably very accurate. but after I got through the box I was done for the day.(I had already put 100rnds through my rifle before renting the pistol. So I was done for the day.)

I agree the beaver tail is way comfortable but i guess colt deemed this design better for carry

What did you pay for the Colt?

I have been looking for a small 1911 for a new carry gun. I have had my eye on the springfield EMP as well as possibly the Springfield GI commander sized model. I hadn't really even been looking at Colt, but I like yours.

I traded an old AR-15 for it
