What is Thumbing?
I went to the range with my new XD45 Compact and most of my shots were in either the 1:00 to 4:00 position at 7 Yards. The info target says I am either "Thumbing" or "Tightening my Grip".
Does anyone else have this problem? I do know I have to go back to the range and improve my combat grip for better control. Thanks for the help |

Shots consistantly at 2:00-3:00 often are from "thumbing" the pistol. Just as the shot begins, the shooter pushes the right thumb (right-handed shooter) and/or the left thumb if shooting two-handed, against the side of the frame causing the aligned sights to move to the right. There is an old adage that pistol shooters would be better shots if their thumbs were amputated. Not quite so severe a remedy is to focus on not letting the thumb do that...lighten up on the thumb.
Shots consistantly around 4:00-5:00 are often from the shooter tightening the grip as the trigger is squeezed. The sights dip low and to the right.
