First real range trip with my new XD9 Service

So, let's see... my first time out (last friday) with my XD 9mm 4" Service was more of a 'let's test the water' over my lunchbreak. We have a range at work, and a large amount of varied ammo in various calibers for testing. I grabbed 22 rounds of 9mm (no +P or +P+ ATM) to try out the much hyped XD, one mag of Remington FMJ +1 fed through with no issues, then grabbed a mixed batch of various brands of JHP, all fed through with no issues at all. Didn't check for POA POI as I was just shooting at the berm from 50yd to see if there were ANY feeding problems. Not a one.

Crisp clean trigger break, nice positive grip feel, fast mag switches, and easy to acquire sight picture. Very nice gun.

Yesterday I took 100 rounds of WWB FMJ 115gr out to the range at my gun club for some more work. I was planning on doing paper at 25yd to see what type of groupings I can get, but lo and behold the iron plates were still setup at the 50yd range! We had 4 plates at 15yd, 2 plates at 25yd and one lone plate sitting back at 50yd. All I can say is wow, this XD shoots very nice. Double taps on the 4 close plates were so simple, recoil was very light and the short trigger reset allows for smooth sustained rhythm while shooting.

My only issue, I have been shooting my .45 for so long that I always aim high at 25/50yd targets, took a few to correct myself while shooting the 9mm, but after getting back on a 6 o'clock sight picture I was able to smack the plate at 50yd as well.

Setting up a paper target at 15yd showed my groupings to the left and a bit low, so there's a bit of trigger control that needs to be worked on. Another nice feature the XD has is good extraction/ejection path. My brass kept grouping for me in nice little areas, easy to find and easy to collect.

Unfortunately it was to bright to use my Insight M3 to see where the light/POI correlation is, but I put a mag through with the light on anyways to see how dirty the light gets, and it does get a bit of GSR on it, but nothing a little windex takes off. Hopefully I can do some dusk shooting to see where the XD puts holes compared to where the M3 puts light

Overall this looks to be a very nice handgun, accurate, functional, and above all, it's black. Looks like it just SHOULD be sitting next to my AR15.

Great report. I am hoping that my XD-9 Serv is as good with various types of ammo as yours has been, and as good as the various reports that I have read. I will be taking my virgin XD-9 Serv out to the range Saturday morning. Can't wait! If you get a chance to shoot with that M3 at dark/dusk let us know how it goes.
