Caswell's CCW 8hr...

I finally got to take my CCW class at Caswell's indoor range at US60 and Stapley in Mesa AZ. My instructor was J.R. Robie. The class was very entertaining and I learned a lot. We even got a few turns in the situational simulator they have on site. It was not what I was expecting. Worth every penny...well $75 dollars worth of pennies.

How did you do in the simulator?

(I wish I could get a MO class for $75!)

I was last to go in our group and I got a "trick" scenario. I ended up shooting the parking garage virtual guy when he rushed me...which was the wrong choice apparently. In my defense... I was not wearing a holster and the gun was already in my hand at the beginning of the exercise. I argued that in a real situation I would not have even had my weapon out and simply decked the guy when I was rushed (I've played hockey most of my life, tossing people around is second nature to me). Either way I got a lot out of it and I will probably rent some more time in there ($40 an hr w/ $10 each additional person). I could still feel the adrenaline rushing after I left hours later.

That sounds awesome! I will have to look for one of those around here. I am sure the training is more valuable than the excitement, but it would nice for both.

AFAIK, the only simulators in the St Louis area belong to a few of the better off police departments. There is no public range that has one.

Sounds better than the course my wife and I took at Shooters World.
I won't give the instructors name, but he was 1 month from retiring from LE and did not seem like he wanted to be there that day. There were 2 dimwits in the class that I'm sure had much to do with his mood.

You cannot legislate morality, and banning inanimate objects will never substitute for personal responsibility. Banning and limiting things merely makes them profitable to criminals via laws of supply and demand.

XD45inAZ....what a classic avatar. Sounds like you had a good time. I can relate to the lifestyle of a hockey player, I started playing as a kid in Minnesota. Was it a video shoot like you see with archery hunting? Just a scenario projected on a screen that you shoot at?

All digital. Basically an interactive video projection on the wall with sensors and surround sound and a non functioning glock with some sort of ir laser. The instructor sits at a desk in the back of the room on the computer putting up scenarios. After each scenario it tells you if you made the right choice or not and then shows where your shots were placed. I was surprised how real it felt. The adrenaline was definitely pumping.

Sounds awesome, I was hoping it was live fire though for practicing multiple shots on single or multiple targets. Was there any other choices for gun models, say the old Nintendo Light Gun?

No. I wasn't going to argue...I'm not a weapon snob. The non-functioning glock was actual loaded weight and when you pulled the trigger the surround sound really simulated the sound of gun fire. All that was missing was recoil and the slide moving back. This set up was completely wireless for the user.
