ammo test

Up until now I have been shooting my XD40 4in at the indoor range and have not been happy with it. Today I finally got to the outdoor range. 50 WWB mostly shot low. 50 CCI brass all over the place. 50 Blasers most were in a 5in circle. All were 180 gr fmj. I am going to get some more Blasers and have another go at it. I beleive the outdoor light made me shoot a lot better. I was ready to give up on the XD after my 2 trips to the indoor range. It just may get to stay. As far as performance I am really pleased with the gun. The factory trigger and sights are something I think I can live with.

Interesting, I have a .40 Tactical and had had the same feeling after a few range trips. I'm not as accurate with it as I am My P226ST .40. Still I'm going to work with it as I'd love to use it in USPSA.

I've shot WWB, Winclean, Blazer, DPX, Double Tap, Win Ranger XT, Speer Gold Dots and a Fed Hyshok. All fed well through it. I'm at about 700 rounds and never cleaned it. I'm using this as a test bed for what an XD can do.

I pretty much only fire federal or winchester through my xd40 4". I've easily put 2000 rounds through it without a problem. Now as for shooting, I also seem to perform better outside then I do in the indoor range. I think I could attribute it to the light quality. But if you're anything like me, I just prefer being outside then being in some stuffy indoor range... Oh, and the indoor ranges I have been to aren't air conditioned... Perhaps a comfort factor?
