Shooting is always dangerous thats why all gun safety rules should be followed. Things are going to happen. You are one in a million. (that got hurt while using gun safety.)

Yeah this happens! The clips are usually made in such a way to minimize the slatter that comes directly back. It usually hits the floor or ceiling. The ones at the indoor range I used to shoot at look like they have been shot millions of times.

I caught a chunk of metal jacket in the nose once. It stuck in too. I still have the scar to prove it. Obey those steel shooting distances.

I get hit with splash all the time, But only three times has it ever caused injury. the first was at an indoor range it was in the shoulder and was hard enough to take me to my knees and leave a pretty big bruise. the second time was at friends backyard range and I was shooting slugs out of my 870 and I got to close to the steel plates a ricochet came back and hit me in the thigh and it was hot enough to melt in to my jeans and stick. It also left a bruise about the size of a 16 in. softball. the final one was just a few months ago, I got hit in the hand with a piece of bullet jacket at a competition in between the ring and little finger on my right hand. walking to the next stage I look down and I have blood dripping off my hand. I wipe it of on my pants and find a small cut no big deal. Later that night the darn thing won't stop itching. so I give it a good squeeze and out comes this hunk of metal. I honestly don't even remember getting hit with it.

In all honesty I would have reported it. If I owned a range I would want my customers to let me know of such things... so I could possibly prevent it from happening again.

Not only that but I would have also filled out an injury report... just to CYA incase for any funny reason that small cut didnt turn into an infection or worse. Yeah... the "what ifs" but if it happened to you youd be happy you filled out the injury report.

Just my opinion.

Around these parts, headshots are not permitted. The three indoor ranges that I hit every week have banned headshots to protect the shooters. In my case I would report it, solely based on the rules of the range.

I've been to some indoor ranges that have protective steel covers in front of the clips in which to hang your targets. They are canted so if any shots strike them it will be deflected toward the ground and away from the shooter. If the range your shooting at doesn;t have these, it might be a good idea to tell them about it. Could help stop any future incidences or lawsuits. Granted this is only an additional safety measure and nothing is 100%

Did this range require you to shoot frangable ammo? Some indoor places do.

I've hit hit by splash also but only at outdoor ranges where I was shooting at steelies. We try to angle the steelies some, place sandbags at the base, and not shoot to close.

I think telling someone is a good idea. If you take some damage then you def need to tell someone.
The range i shoot at also has a bunch of holes in the divider and i sometime try to put a story together that makes sense but it never happens. There are just some dumasses out there and in case you are next to one , he needs to get flagged

I got hit by some frag on my very first visit to an indoor range. Wan't serious. But, along with eye protection, wear jeans. I think most frag hits are on the legs.

One of my local indoor ranges has a prep area that is loaded with deformed lead, and they shrug it off. You know, the area behind the shooting stalls with a table where you sit your bags and load you mags? Pieces of fragmented and deformed lead all over the place.

When I was shooting there once, I saw a man bring in his 9 year old little boy to show him how to shoot a gun. It was his boy's introduction to guns, and he was obvioulsy frightened to be there. The kid obviously had little exposure to guns, and he was frightened of the loud bangs. Anyhow, the dad tells his kid to "man up" and grab the handgun and take his first shot. As the kid was aiming the gun, the kid screamed out in pain and blood started dripping from his arm. The kid wasn't in that range more than 15 minutes, and he got nailed with a ricochet in the arm. Broke the skin, but didn't penetrate. The kid was in pain and terror.

I would hate to be that father who forced his kid into it and then that happened. Also, he was on visitation with his kid. He was divorced, and had to take the kid home to mom like that. Man, I would not want to be in his shoes.

Hope it doesn't turn the kid into a future Brady nut.
