How long did the fire burn for? Any idea?
To be fair they have had some serious fires out there. They have a no steel-core rule, but don't really enforce it anytime but summer. For as lax as they are at times, it's not hard to imagine someone shooting something they shouldn't be out there, like tracers. Yeah, the regular RO (young guy, usually carrying his 1911 or AR) can be a hardass sometimes.
Was it the young guy or the older man who owns the place that was giving you a hard time?

P.S. The RO is a nice guy on weekdays with few people there. Haven't ever experienced the looked down upon thing (I'm 21, been going there for over a year).

So let me get this straight the RO accused you of starting a fire (300 yards away) and then tryed to turn you into the firefighters........and you were shooting your XD?

Unless you had some serious elevation dialed in I doubt anything you shot traveled 300 yards.

I have never been hassled at any range, indoors or out, by the RO.

However, I have seen other people hassled -- YELLED at -- in front of everyone which is pretty embarrassing. Never saw anyone actually deserve this treatment, however.

So, I became the RO of my club's range and I treat everyone with calm respect which I can tell is really appreciated. When someone is violating a safety rule, I walk over to them and explain it in person in a conversational tone. I almost never have to correct them again and nobody gets their nose out of joint.

When someone is violating the 5-round max rule for high powered semi-auto rifles, I usually just have to walk past them and pause, then keep walking, for them to get the point.

I carry an XD40 Service when RO'ing.

5 round rule? That sucks. I guess there must be a reason but that sounds like no fun.

Ya it was the older guy i've been there b4 and he seemed nice enough. i think he was just stressed out that day the range was already full by like 10. And i guess it seemed a little odd that after we had some words and i finally was able to set up and shoot within an hour the fire broke out.

But then he wouldn't let ne body leave untill he checked everyones guns which made sense but after he checked people started leaving but we were told we weren't able to leave yet and the people that had already left had emergencys which i didn't believe.

ah im over it in the end i was given a rain check and one day i'll give it another go.

There's a SGL range I went to once that has a 3 round max on everything, pistols, rifle, doesn't matter.
