First rounds through the XD45 Compact

Shot pretty well, just put a few rounds through it, around 100 or so. I need to get the sights adjusted a bit as hardly anything was on the right side of the target. everything was to the left and most of the shots were a bit low. my brother in law was shooting with me and he was shooting low thinking the sights were set for the "6 o'clock" aim. i had truglo fiber optic/tritium night sights put on at the shop before i picked it up and i think the rear sight is a touch off.

also, i've noticed this with the xd45 i just picked up as well as on a xd40sc, that when the last round has been fired, the slide doesn't always lock back? is that me with too loose of a grip?

otherwise, worked like a charm and can't wait to go next week and put some more FMJs through it.

DON'T ADJUST THE SIGHTS!!!!

No offense, but it's probably you, not the gun. The "low and left" thing seems to be common for newcomers to the XD. Practice makes perfect though...

The factory sights are setup for a six o'clock aim, so one can only assume that the aftermarket ones are to if they are for the XD.

Check your grip on the slide not locking back. You may be hitting the slide release with your thumb. That one still gets me from time to time.

i'm not sure what the top of the slide where the sights sit with the standard three dot sights, but with the sights that i had put on, i can see two grooves which appear to be an assistance to visually eye up whether or not the sights are centered. the rear sights don't look like they're centered in between those grooves.

i'll try to get a pic up.

I agree with Matt, low and too the left is usual for most people, especially with a DA only handgun like SA or Glock.

Another thing is that a different sized sight could have been installed. I know the Fiber Optic sights come in different sizes/heights. However low and left is normal and just needs practice. I shot low and left with my 4" Glock for at least the first 200 or so rounds. A trigger job also helped

Your pics don't look too bad at all, only a portion are low and left. It'll just take some time getting used to the pistol/trigger. What distance were you shooting from?

Forgot to mention that I just picked up my Compact 45 earlier today, hope to get to the range on Sat. She has the factory sights, unfortunately the XD is known to have stiff sights, so it'll have to go to someone competant for the N/S.

I can tell from dry fire I don't like the trigger, a lot of people have said the same thing from what I've read. Way too much take up and the break isn't crisp...probably worth the $100 to get a 1911 trigger feel.

i guess it's not that bad, i probably need to just shoot up several targets at a consistent distance by myself and see what happens. my brother in law is 16 and i brought him with me and we alternated shooting. he had a tendancy to shoot low, but i don't know where he was aiming. i also shot a few from about 25 yards. so who knows. i just figured that regardless of where i was shooting from, to see that high of a percentage of the shots end up on the left, i'd think with two different shooters, it might be the sights.

also, is the "scuffing" or whatever you want to call it on the right side of the front sight normal for changing the sights on the xd?

i don't like the take up and technically, the xd is not a double action, it's cocked and locked when you cycle the slide, the "double action" feel is action the safety block being moved away from the striker.

i also am thinking about getting the trigger job done, i prefer the 1911 style trigger where there isn't hardly any take up, when the trigger is pulled, the gun goes bang, no wondering when it's going fire.

now that i think about it, most of the low shots were mark, my brother in law. he was telling me that most of my shots were in the orange or the center white. i think he only had one in the center white.
