Shot my XD9 for the first time

Today I shot my XD for the first time, it was also the first time I ever shot a handgun in my life, and it was also to qualify for a TN carry permit.

I must say that I love the XD, of course I have nothing to compare it too handgun wise but as far as my limited knowledge lets me say it is a very nice handgun.

We started off shooting 42 rounds for NRA basic pistol qualification, and to warm up for the state test. I had no problem hitting the targets from the seated, or two handed standing positions, but I had some troubles with one handed standing, and after my instructor corrected my grip I started hitting that target as well.

For the TN state test we fired 48 rounds total from various distances, all two handed standing. Out of a possible 480 points on a B-17 silhouette target I shot a 460. I attribute that score mostly to the excellent training I recieved but the XD helped me put that training to use efficiently.

Well now I'm hooked on handgunning and can't wait to get back to the range this weekend, and give the XD a workout.

Great to hear your report. Good job getting a 460 out of 480. Continue to enjoy your XD and keep us updated on how much you love your pistol.

Indeed it was, well technically the first time I ever shot a handgun was qualifying for NRA Basic Pistol but that was about a half hour before I qualified for my CCW.

im not trying to tell you how to live your life, but dont think you should have practiced more before getting your ccw?

but i guess depending on how long the wait is you could practice a lot before it shows up.

sorry, i just think it's odd to apply for a ccw pretty much the first time you shoot a gun. am i the only one?

As long as he practices a lot now, it should be fine.

I actually thought it would be more dangerous to go out and buy a gun and try to figure it out on my own without any training. It was only the first time I'd fired a handgun I do have experience with long guns. The class was a combination of NRA Basic Pistol and the TN carry permit class so its not like it was an advanced class. I talked to the instructor before taking the class and he informed me that many people who take the class have never even seen a real gun in their lives. Also the wait is 90 days so plenty of time to practice before it comes, not to mentino that I haven't even applied for it yet.

Another point to consider is that to qualify on the range for the TN HCP you only need to shoot a 180/480, the people with scores like that are the people you should be afraid of.

On the subject of practice, I'm going this weekend and plan to go several times a month.

Please keep in mind I'm not trying to be rude and I believe that everyone has a right to there own opinion. I'm just trying to give you a little more background on my situation.

Congratulations Branket. Now go buy 2 cases of ammunition and break that new pistol in.. Once you have done that, go to a club and start shooting some competition..
