New XD .45 tactical

I bought my XD Wednesday and took it to the range today for the 1st time. I shot 50 rounds of Wolf 230grn ball, I had 1 FTfeed on the 1st mag, I'm gonna blame that on me and not the pistol. This is my 1st double stack magazine and the round was cockeyed in the mag. The other 49 rounds went just fine.

Shooting from 10yds it was hitting low and left, by the time I'd gone through the 50 rounds I had it centered pretty well. Next week when I take it out I'll bring a brass punch and if still shooting left I'll drift the sight left a smidge.

Congrats on the new pistola.

Was the wolf ammo you used brass, steel, or polymer-cased?

You might want to hold off a bit on drifting the sights. Low left is quite often associated with trigger operation and time will allow you to get used to the trigger. My friends and I have purchased 4 new XD's (9MM, .40 S&W and .45ACP) over the past year and the greatest error found in sight setting among them has been 1/2 inch to the right at 15 yards. For a combat pistol that aint bad. My .40 has produced 3/4 inch 5 shot groups at 15 yards from sand bags using either Ranger or Hand load ammo. 90% of those group size values were my inability to hold steady.

Enjoy the new toy and keep us posted.

New XD .45 tactical

I had the same experience with my XD .45 tac the first time out -- low and left. Soon discovered the problem was me, not the sights. It took a little time for me to adjust to the "safety" trigger, but once I did, I started hitting to point of aim.

Congratulations on the new XD. Let me add my agreement to the advice not to mess with your sights until you are much more familiar with the pistol. I experienced the same symptoms you described and I adjusted my grip. Although I eventually installed TruGlo TFOs it was not because there was anything wrong with the stock sights. Happy shooting!

I too just purchased a new XD45 Tactical only mine is the compact version. I would like to say this gun shoots like a dream. Since I finally was able to pick it up two weeks ago I have put about 150 rounds of 230 FMJ through it; 100 or them were American Ammunition and the balance Independence. Out of those 150 rounds I have not had one failure of any kind, this gun just wants to shoot.

All shooting has been at 10 - 15 yards except for the first few rounds I shot at 7 just to get a feel for the gun. Last week after spending a week dry firing it and changing my grip a little I put 12 or the first 17 rounds in the center of a standard silhouette and by the end of the session had shot the center absolutely to pieces. The only shots I made that were not in the torso on the silhouette were ones where I made an error, usually a flinch.

As soon as I can get my reloading gear dug out of the boxes it has been in since we moved several years ago and get some .45ACP dies I'll start reloading for both this gun and my .44 Special and really start doing some shooting. Can't wait to see what the XD does off the sandbags at 25 and 50 yards.

Just shoot that thing. I was low left also at first then it broke in and I stopped slapping the trigger. Now it's all good. Just give it some time.
