New Dayton Guy Shoots, Scores.

Third time shooting with my XD9 Service. Actually, third time shooting ever. This is 16-rounds at 25', with ten of the shots fired in 15-seconds. The XD is one great handgun, and extremely accurate. My gun wasn't shooting high, it's just that the lighting where I shoot does not provide visibility of the white rings and numerals on the target, so I shoot where I "think" center is, and use this first shot as my target for all follow-up shots. Sorry for the wrinkles. I had thrown it out, but later decided to keep it. That's a chicken grease stain to the right. Yum.

Great shooting, but damn....you can't see it at 8 yards? Is your range in a closet? Guess it's time for you to add a light to that XD.

Thanks guys. I think the cardboard backing middle being shot-out may contribute to the problem, but yes, I cannot see the rings. The orange color may not offer enough contrast, but I have other colors I can use.

Third time shooting? Really! I read that a blue background target is easiest to see. Are you sure this is only your third time shooting? EVER!

Well, third time to the range as a shooter and not a student. Bought an XD in January, and had never shot a gun of any type, until I went to a 2.5hr handgun initiation course at my local range in mid-February, which included primarily class time and some shooting towards the end. My heart almost blew through my chest I was so nervous. Did fine at 10', but was all over the place at 25' then. I didn't bring my gun, but used the Glock 9mm they used for the course. Just once with my wife a month ago, one time ten-days ago and this time yesterday. Total of about 300-rounds, including the class time.

Here's my XD9 at 15' ten-days ago (one stray):

And my new Stoeger Cougar 9mm, 2nd time shooting it, the same day as above:
