Talking XD-9 Service with Wolf

I went to the range this past Sunday and actually met a fellow xdtalker, wolfsburg_de.

He and his shooting buddy were shooting in the lane next to me and I felt a little competitive, so I thought I'd shoot for some accuracy and see what I got.

The ammo was your basic run of the mills 115 gr. polymer coated steel cased Wolf. It's a little dirty, but it's cheap. I last bought a case for $90.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. (all images are clickable for larger views)

1st Target.

I circled the strings so you'd see which groups belong together.

Upper Left Bullseye.

I forgot I was shooting for accuracy with my first string and didn't have the same Point of Aim for all my shots.

Upper right Bullseye.

A little better I started to concentrate more on my front sight and putting my front sight at the same spot on the target each time. Those little 1" orange dots really help.

Lower Left Bullseye.

A little better still. 6 shots I think? Five of the six within an inch. One jerked trigger ruined my group.

Lower Right Bullseye.

I don't know what happened here. I can't remember if this was when wolfsburg_de's friend was shooting his Desert Eagle or not.

Still need some practice.

Everyone knocks Wolf, but if you dont mind the extra cleaning it's pretty good blasting ammo.

2nd Target
6 shots at 7 yards.
The missing shot is above the lower middle and below the upper middle shot.

Good job, Sir. They're much better groupings than I usually get.

I don't expect any good groups at the range during my next visit, since I haven't shot my XD's in over 8 months.

And it's cool that you met a fellow XD-er!

He probably bought it a while back.

The cheapest I've found in a while is Monarch at Academey sports and outdoors and it is 4.86 cents a box of 50 which comes out to a little less than 100 bucks for 1k rounds. These are practically Wolf ammo. Steel cased, Russian made, red sealant on the primer and case throat. The only thing is it's laquer coated where the Wolf stuff is now polymer coated which is soppoused to make it feed better and fire cleaner. Shot 400 rnds of it while I was at home on leave out of my XD-9 and didn't have a single problem with it.

If you have a membership with thesportsmansguide you can get wolf for 119 dollars a case.

However it is backordered till April 30th.

You can also get Ultramax FMJ brassed cased reloads for 147 dollars for a case of 1000.

I saw you poking holes in those targets with a 9mm pencil.

It was nice meeting you and thanks for letting me try out the trigger on your XD. We'll have to meet up sometime. BTW, that Desert Eagle was all bark but not bite. I finally realized it was easy to shoot and my last two rounds made touching holes in target.

Nice. I knew that pistol was super accurate. I'd imagine the heft of it would absorb some of the recoil.

I did buy the Wolf a while back, and I'm sad that I didn't pick up more cases.
