Friday at the range

Was a balmy 61* this afternoon so I thought I'd hit the range. Planned on putting 150-200 downrange with the XD. Only managed to get 3 magazines downrange. We (my range buddy and I) ended up "testing" some new loads for the club's .44 Magnum and .223. I was very pleased with the results of the limited time with the XD:

Distance was 10-12 yards, all my shots hit the plate (there were about 4-5 of us shooting at the same target). My only problem came up when I tried to put a few of those junk Hydrashoks that I got from Gander. Had a couple FTF's from them. I tried 25 yards last time I was at the range and it looked like the upper quarter of the silhouette (B-34 target) looked like someone had shot it with a big shotgun. I decided I needed to bring it closer and work my way out (work on trigger control, etc.).

After spending so much time with the gun club's Kimber (I still want one in the worst way), the XD trigger seems to leave something to be desired. I guess I just need to practice, practice, and practice some more. I'd be content with shooting groups like these. Anybody have some hints to pass on to a young whipper snapper?

So a rather boring range report, but for 40 rounds of ammo, it's not gonna be an article out of Combat Handguns

*looks up* Wow, I'm long-winded . . .

Have you thought about a Canyon or Springer Precision trigger job? From what I hear from everyone is that they make a WORLD of difference.

+1; my Canyon Creek trigger job made all the difference in the world on my XD45 Service. I'd recommend running 500-1,000 rounds through your pistol first to break in your trigger. You may decide that you don't need trigger work.

It's on the list to do. I've gotten a chance to dry-fire jonny4523's XD-40 after he had a Springer carry job done on his and I was very impressed with how much better it was than the stock trigger. Trigger job is gonna have to wait until after the AR gets built though.

Also, round count through the XD is at 543 rounds. The trigger is better than it was when I first bought it, but I'm still a little iffy on the way it feels (I like it way better than a stock Glock though).
