Report: first time out with XD9SC
Picked up my first pistol friday evening, a new XD9SC. I took it to the range this afternoon and needless to say there were no problems, other then my poor shooting.
I put 205 rounds through the pistol, 202 Winchester Wal Mart special and 3 Remington 124 grain +P JHP. I only shot three because there was 25 in the box I purchased and I wanted two magazine loads + 2 for defense. Each of the Winchester 100 round boxes came with 101, which sort of surprised me. Anyway, I loved the pistol. I have only been shooting on a few occasions in my life and I probably have a number of problems with my stance and grip that need to be corrected. There is a good instructor nearby who only charges $40 for a lesson that I will hit up shortly. As far as lining up the sights, the manual discusses the different strategies with different ranges. I didn't get a chance to play with it much, but I think its safe to say I shot mostly down and to the left. |

ChrisChris,
No reason for worries. Everything takes time and practice. I know I am going through the same thing with my XD 45. I am getting better and showing considerable improvement with only two times at the range. Be thankful your ammo is cheaper than mine. What I found is I am becoming more comfortable and predictable as the trigger breaks in, and I learn it. Smoothing out nicely, although I know it will take more rounds. For you, I would suggest not getting too discouraged with you accuracy right off, but work trigger smoothness and sighting. As you get more comfortable, it begins to all fall into place. It will happen. Don't put pressure on yourself to hit bullseyes everytime just yet. Yeah we all strive for those, but it takes time and learning your weapon as it learns you. Practice trigger safety first, then sight dicipline. It takes time, but it comes quickly if you practice it always. Your shots WILL improve as you shoot. The XD's are Double Action (DA's), and you will learn to love it as you and your weapon become one together. |
