Right handed shooter Left eye dominant?

Anybody else out there have trouble shooting right handed but are left eye dominant? Seem when shoot right handed I am off target a lot either high to the right or low to the left I don't want to have to shoot low to the left in order to hit the target. But when I shoot Left handed my shots fall right on target seem my eye and shooting hand are enlined correctly but to draw the pistol in this way seems totally unatural left had is also the weaker. I agree with those who say we should learn to use both hands, but I also would like the impact to be the point of aim. Anyone else have this dellema?

Sincerely

I am also left eye dominant, but right handed. I shoot righty, and align the sights with my left eye. I usually have no problem aiming, except when firing quickly, then I just close my right eye.

Alot of guys recommend putting scotch tape on your shooting glasses to prevent your right eye from focusing, but I haven't tried that yet.

Do a search for left eye dominance and you'll find several posts on this site.

My wife has the same "feature". She has yet to be bothered by it though. I taught her how to align the sites with her left eye and she's good to go. As for taping your glasses, only in a bullseye match do I use tape on my left lense (I'm right eye, right hand). Tactically speaking, this is a real disadvantage. I want as much peripheral vision as possible. Always be aware of your surroundings and have as much field of view as possible.

I've got a weirder one...
Been right eye dominant in shooting rifle, all of a sudden while out hunting this year, I found myself starting to prefer left-eye.

Time to see the eye-doc, huh?

That is me. I put a piece of scotch tape on my shooting glass. Works like a charm and I can shoot with both eyes open.

I've read and been taught somewhat the opposite viewpoint when it comes to cross dominance and target alignment. The defensive handgun classes I've taken (from a reputable outfit) have all encouraged closing one eye when actually shooting; typically keeping the eye associated with your dominant hand open. The reasoning is such: when you're actually shooting, you need to be concentrating on the guy you're trying to stop at that time. Closing that eye is the fastest and most consistent way to get your sights on target. Once you're done with him, then open both eyes and scan the surroundings. Basically, it's better to deal with the known threat as fast as possible instead of compromising in order to deal with another threat that may or may not be there.

I am right eye dominant and a lefty, I shoot left handed and what I do is just turn my head slightly to the left which allows my right eye to take over the sight without loosing my peripheral. works very well for me.....

ditto here, cross-dominant.

in my experience, depends on your stance.

modern-isocolese (sp?) = was taught to keep both eyes open, yet i still use left to focus on front sight, works ok, not my best shooting stance

weaver stance = keep elbows bent & in, use push/pull on grip, hold VERY tight and tilt head to the right. was taught to lay head on upper arm - doesn't work for me.
if you can keep both eyes open do, else just use left eye

one-handed-right = cant the gun inboard (toward your centerline) about 20-30 degrees, until skeletal & muscular alignment feels "comfortable", use left eye but remember to squeeze not with just your right hand but ball up your left hand into a fist and hold it up around your pecs.
and i am actually deadon accurate with this one-handed (right) than anything else. dunno why, maybe someone who knows more can explain it to me, but i do tend to be more accurate this way.

one-handed-left = keep gun upright and straight, do not cant but ball up right hand into fist as above

another 2cents from another left-eye
