Slide locked back on XD40

I took my XD40 SC pistol to the rang today and until today didn't have any Issues with the Pistol. But today after about fifty rounds the slide would lock back as if the pistols mag were empty. I cleaned the Pistol after my previous trip to the range about a week ago so cleaning wasn't the issue. Has anyone ever encountered this problem? And if so how did you resolve it?

You are not to clear on when it happened , did it happen while firing a clip , did it lock back and ftf or fte? What kind of ammo were you using . Are you right handed? How are you holding the gun? maybe you are accidentaly engaging the release lever for the slide with your fingers?

I just had the same problem with my xd 40 service. It ended up being my magazine. I guess the follower is not going up all the way to feed the round, according to a gunsmith at Gander Mountain. I tried a different magazine and it has been working great since. So I would try another mag.
Good Luck

Now you're busting on the military. We call them mags and not clips these days.

But for the original poster, you might be pushing up on the slide release without knowing it. That is about 90% of the time what the problem is. (That 90% is just representing that it is a high occurrence and not a scientific number. Sort of where the left liberals get their poll numbers from, but more accurate)

Agreed. I've done it about 4 times out of 2,015 rounds from my 45 ACP Service. Every once in awhile my thumb decides to do its own thing.

Of course that's the least of MY problems, I'm still shooting consistantly LOW.

In answer to Vashooter's question I was using winchester FMJ Target ammo. The problem was after the pistol fired, round extracted OK I don't think I could've hit the slide release with my thumb because I have small hands but that is a possibility at the time I was practicing firing single handed Left & Right. I will pay attention to the magazine as well next time I go to the range. Thank guys

Same problem with my gun this weekend. XD40SC.

In my case, I had it apart last week to replace a broken slide lock lever. When I took it apart, the first thing that jumped out was the locking block and slide stop lever spring are different that as depicted in the owners manual. New design, no big deal.

Except, the slide lever spring is pretty wimpy (IMO). The spring relies on the slide disassembly lever to put tension on the spring and tighten it up. With the disassembly lever out of the gun, there's almost no tension at all in the spring. With the lever in, it's better, but still seems light to me.

After the third time the slide locked back I paid CAREFUL attention to my grip. I was nowhere near touching the slide lock and my grip was firm. It seemed to me like the recoil was making the lever bounce because the spring tension was so light. In each case, it wasn't afailure to feed. The gun was locked back cleanly.
