If your XD is new, check the trigger safety for any flashing left from the molding process. The trigger safety should be smooth with just the little grooves in it, no single sharp ridge. It runs vertically down the middle of the safety, top to bottom. Both of mine had that and the flashing will make your finger sore and raise a blister. Use an X-acto knife to trim away the flashing.

300 rounds threw my XD 40 4 inch in a 3 hour period and I had no problems, blisters or sore hands.

I know some of you guys have put a ton of rounds through your XD's, but to the guys that haven't. When I first got my XD-40 the first couple hundred rounds gave me a semi sore finger. Didn't break the skin or give me a long lasting pain, just enough irritation to feel it when driving home (kinda numb feeling).
Anyway, I have since put about 2000 rounds through it no problems. I put 800 rounds through it in one weekend, finger was totally fine. I think it was just a break in period for the gun, maybe the trigger safety spring is a little hard.

I don't have any problems on my trigger finger after shooting my guns, but I'm sure that's just from:
a) not shooting 100's of rounds each shooting session, and b) not having as many shooting sessions as I would have liked to After a year, I only have about 1200 rounds through my first XD... so sad. *hangs head in shame*

XDFishing buddy and 1GKEK, What did you do to resolve the problem
I just picked my new XD9 Tactical and went straight to the 50 indoor range. Most of the 300 rounds went into about a 6 inch circle. I pushed and jerked some of the shots and the 124 gr printed higher and to the right compared to the 115gr. I had trigger slap for 200 rounds with WWB 115 gr. The load felt more "snappy" compared to the next 100 rounds of LoadX reloads 124 gr. Also I did not feel any trigger slap with the 124 gr reloads. I don't think that it just happened to get better on the 201st shot. I think that the milder load has something to do with the trigger not slapping. This is the first time I felt trigger finger pain. I can still feel the tingling on my trigger finger pad and I shot 10 hours ago. I have a mechanic/electrical background and work in construction/maintenance field. I have been told that I have "hard I shoot a variety of pistols and revolvers from 22LR, 38, 357, 40, 45ACP, 45 Colt (Hot), 44MAG, and 243Win in T/C single shot. This is my first gun in 9mmLuger. I chose the XD because I tried a friends Glock, HK, Sig, and his XD all at one shooting range session and it shot the most accurate for me. I bought a drop in sear kit from Springer and hope that it will cure the problem. Yes this is an old thread but it is the only one I can find after performing "search" that is the exact same problem that I am experiencing. |

I "think" in some cases the finger gets pinched between the trigger and the trigger safety. As someone else stated, make sure there aren't any sharp edges on the trigger safety.
I had it happen to me once. It is annoying.

My XD 9 Service was my first pistol ever.
When I started to use less trigger finger I was getting a small bruise when visting the range more then 4 times a week. This eventually went away and I contributed it to a few things: -My finger was not used to how it was sitting on the trigger correctly -The split trigger can pinch or cause discomfort if finger is too low -Using too much force when pulling (slapping) -Putting alot of rounds downrange in a short period of time Now I don't even notice it but I think my finger is toughened up and I have learned to ease the trigger back. |

Trigger Slap
I went out to the range last night to try my new Don's guide rod and 22# spring on my XD 40. The recoil was significantly sharper with the new spring, and i noticed some discomfort in my fingers. I only shot a box, as it was getting dark, but I've never noticed this prior to the new spring. I'm wondering if this is more of a recoil issue, than a trigger issue.
I was shooting Win 180gr Target loads. What are you other guys that are noticing this anomaly using for springs and loads? |
