What exactly is "trigger slap"? The only way I could imagine a trigger hurting a finger would be if it required a very heavy pull and either the trigger needs to be lightened or the finger needs to be conditioned.

I found that term on this site. What I am experiencing is some sort of feedback or vibration from firing the gun. I can feel it everytime I pull the trigger.

I've decided to get a trigger job from Canyon Creek. That should take care of any problem.

I've never had any trigger slap on my xd40. Finger has never hurt once while firing it. Only time my finger hurt from shooting was when I rented a ruger sp101 the other day, now that was trigger slap. Could it be possible that just a person's technique makes it slap? Because I can shoot 200 rounds easy and no pain in my finger, nor does it get hot to the touch on the trigger.

Is it possible then, that when you pull the trigger for each shot you are usining more force than is absolutely required and holding the pressure on the trigger through the full recoil?

The next time you dry fire, pay very close attention to how you release the trigger to reset for the next shot. In other words try to relax the trigger finger as much as possible by not holding pressure all the way through each recoil. Pull the trigger through the take up and break and no more. Release just enough to reset and then repeat. Your shooting will be more enjoyable and accurate if you will relax as much as possible.

Isn't holding the trigger through the recoil good follow through? Seems like trying to release the trigger as soon as it fires might be a bit upsetting, in terms of balance.

Clearly, I'm not an expert (only been shooting pistols for a few months now) so I'm surious what the rest of you think.

Met another XD shooter at the range yesterday who wears a shotting glove because his XD40 slaps pretty hard.

If you are holding the trigger back hard enough to hurt yourself, you are already upsetting the pistol. Consider that we have always heard that you should always squeeze the trigger as to not upset your point of aim. The less your trigger finger affects the rest of the pistol in any other way for any other reason the better off you are.

The trigger finger should never do more than take up, trip, and reset the trigger. And all of this without affecting your point of aim. If you are working at it any harder than you absolutely have to, you are slowing yourself down.

And besides that I love to pretend I know what I am talking about.

any takers?

there's also working on the fryer's at a fast food joint, but then again, If you do that, there are 2 variables

1. the store provides you with a gun, to fend off robberies. (churches chicken chain mostly)

2. you can't afford a gun even on managers salary, what the HELL are you doing here.

also, I experience none of this "trigger slap" that some are. No heating of the trigger. My clip got warm once, but I shot through a clip real quick like. pull trigger, then track and pull. just tring to work on my speed. the gun was smokin a little bit from the back end also, but i only experienced that with CCI Blazers. Which, I will never shoot through a gun of mine again.

Mojo,

Stopped by the range at lunch for a "quickie". Sent 50 rounds downrange with the gentlest, lightest touch I could muster. I even whispered "gently" each time I fired.....

The trigger still does a number on my finger, and the people that were in the stalls next to me think I'm psychotic. Thanks for the advice.
