Put 200 Rounds Through My New XD40SC
All I can say is WOW!!
I had absolutely no problems. It shot increadibly accurately. I am amazed at how accurate such a small handgun is. I was putting double taps from 7-10 yards into the center body mass with ease. From 15-25 yards, with patience and slow shooting, I was getting bulls-eyes and center mass 10's & 9's. It sure makes me want to try geting a tactical too for more range shooting. The SC gets a little tiring, being so small. I use it for CCW, so comfort to wear and accuracy within 10 yards is most important. How soft-shooting is the new 45 Tactical? Is this how the XD bug starts? Dave |

Yes, this IS how the XD bug starts!
I shot an XD-45ACP at the range on Friday, and it was butter! I shot it better than either my XD-9SC or my XD-40. Felt recoil was nonexistent. |

I am going to try
I sure like my new XD-45 Service Mod. But I am going to really try to keep control of my buying habits. Last time I got into a buying frenzy was when I bought my Glock23.40 then I wanted a fullsized 1911 5" .45 so I bought a Kimber TLE.45 then I wanted a small 1911 bought a Kimber Ultra Carry3" .45. Well then I wanted a Comander sized 1911 the 4" so along came a Kimber Tac Pro..45. So this said I am going to try real hard to control the buying of more XDs.

SOMEONE STOP ME>>>
I am buying too many XDs!
I found a XD45ACP Service (Parkerized) with the package deal at San Antonio out the door, tax and all for $545.00 That is also including a 10% military discount. I shot it this weekend at the range and man...it is sweat. Accuracy is better than any COMPOSITE 45ACP. It can't beat my Kimber, but holding 13+1 rounds...AWESOME. The trigger is not as smooth as my XD40Service. And I am thinking that it is due to my XD40S having 300rds broken in. I am going to have to get a XDSC now...not sure weather to go for the 40 or 9mm.

oldboyroy,
The SC is definately not a range gun. Sure, I will use it at the range to ensure my proficiency with the weapon, but your other firearms are probably better suited for heavy range use than the SC. That said, with the pistols you listed, the .40 would seem like a better choice for the SC. Why? Because of its intended purpose. the SC is built ideally for CC use. The .40 is a better round than the 9mm for stopping power. Not to mention that you are already buying .40 rounds for your service. Sure, some(expensive) 9mm rounds can approach the power of a lower power .40 round, but most of the 9mm owners use the .40 for comparison to try to illustrate the 9mm's power. Why not the .22? That is because when push comes to shove the .40 has more stopping power. If there was a XD 45 SC, everyone would be comparing to that caliber as it is regularly regarded as the standard to which all auto's caliber's stopping power is measured. This does not mean that a 9mm is a bad round, that the xd9sc is a bad weapon, or that the owners of 9mm's made a bad choice. There are lots of reasons to buy a sidearm. If self-defense is the main reason, it would stand to reason that the firearm which fires the bullet with the most stopping power, that you could handle accurately, that could be carried in the way which fits your purpose (CC, open carry, etc.), that you could afford, is the right choice. For me, with CC, the XD40SC was the best choice. Dave |

I appreciate the inputs and agree with that the 40 is a more consistent powerful round than the 9mm. But my next question is which one is better in a short 3 inch barrel. Should the grain be reduced to gain a faster velocity to equate a better energy since the longer barrels produce faster velocities? So then again is the lighter 9mm better than a heavier 40 in a 3inch barrell. I have never worried about cost of ammon or power/recoil. The first shot is what matters and better yet where you place it.
