xd9 range report: problems
I have had my XD 9 Service since May of 2005 and have had no problems of any kind with any brand of ammo. (approximately 800 rds). Today, however, was a different story. I was shooting UMC hollow points and had 2 fte. After that box I shot some reloads that I purchased at the range. After about 10 rounds, a live round became stuck in the chamber so tightly that I could not move the slide at all. I asked the the range master for assistance and he had to hammer the slide back with a brass rod. I always clean the gun thoroughly after each range session, however after I got home and field stripped the gun, I looked like I may have over lubed it last time. Could this be contributing to my problem? If anyone has some input I would appreciate it

These is newb question, but, what kind of brass rod did the gunsmith use to slam back the slide, the way you worded it made it sound damaging to the weapon.
Reloads could be your major problem if they are inconsistently contructed with varying amounts of powder Overlubing your xd does not help either though it is easy to get out of hand with oiling even though you are just making sure all the right metal areas of the firearm are covered .

Send it back to Springfield arms. They have a lifetime warranty. Also reloads could have epanded casings depending on how mant times it has been reloaded.

Send it to SA
I second the advice of sending it to SA they need to check the bbl. breach and now the full action of the firearm after the rangemaster banged on the slide.

jamming
I may have overstated the hammering part. He stuck a brass rod down the barrel and then tapped the end of the brass rod on the concrete. I took the gun apart afterward and I don't see anything obviously wrong with it. Should I send it back to Springfield or just try again with ammo I know works?
Thanks |

Ok lets give it another go at range. Clean the bbl. breach and oil the slide and frame lugs and use new american Mfg. Ammo. no reloads. Give us another report after you shoot Good Luck. |

Finally got back to the range today. 2 FTE in 100 rounds using WWB. I guess I will be sending it back to Springfield. Arrrrghhh.

I never did get around to shipping the gun back to springfield. The UPS center is not convenient for me to go to. So last weekend I went shooting with some friends and said what the hell I'll take the 9. I took 100 + rounds of WWB, some old Winchester silver tips, and some gold dots. (About 200 rounds total). Much to my surprise the XD 9 shot them all without a hiccup. So now I dont know what to think. User error? Not cleaned right? The plot thickens...

I'd keep shooting it and wait to see if it becomes a recurring problem. Hard to justify sending back a gun that was working perfectly for 200 rounds.
