glimmer31: If this is a stupid question, please forgive me. If in fact I did get a "tight" gun, would these problems manifest themselves right out of the box? I owned and shot this gun for 8 months or so before I had any problems. Then it had some hiccups on 2 consecutive range trips, now it works perfectly. I'm thinking at this point maybe I didn't clean it so good or had some bad ammo. I dunno...I'll keep shooting it and see what happens. As far as saving my life goes, I'm not too worried about it as I don't carry this gun. It mainly serves as a range/occasional house gun.
If it acts up again, I will send it out to a smith or springfield.
Thanks for the input, I will keep this thread up to date as things progress.

XD Malfunction.....

Cat, You're right about the gun being tight would manifest right out of the box. However, if after shooting it for 8 months, some part went 'out of tolerance' due to whatever, wear, accident, hot ammo, etc.. problem, then there you are with an XD that might get tighter, looser, lock up, fall apart, or just malfunction in general. Since your life doesn't depends on it, and you can afford to let it go for a while, I'd have it looked at by a GOOD GUNSMITH, (not the local hack...) or send it back to Springfield for a looksee, maybe repair. XD's have a lifetime guarentee to the best of my knowledge. If you brought it to my shop, that's what I'd tell you, send it to Springfield (after I took a quick look for obvious problems...) or I would an just charge what it cost me to send it back & forth. If the 'smith' tried to charge more than that, he's soaking you. My best guess... out of spec. ammo (yep, even from the factory...) or possibly an problem with the recoil spring. XD's unlike the G**** guns arn' t that touchy about cleaning.... My 2cents... Shoot Safe.... Take it for what ya paid for it..... The advice that is....Good luck and Good Shooting.

I've shot 600 rounds of WWB in my XD9 without issues. I have another 250 rounds at home waiting to be shot.

XD Malfunction....

One last comment... I take weapons to the range regularly, somtimes a couple times a week for testing before I return them to their owners. I always try to put some down range with my XD since it is my primary carry gun. I've ran in the neighborhood of 500 - 750 rds (only had it about 6 weeks...) through mine, everything from Gold Dots, to Surplus Hardball, and not a hitch. It likes the 124 Gr Gold Dots best though. My best 25 yd group is about 4-5 inches (benchrested). 2-3 (weaver stance, while sitting... wheelchair, remember...) at 10 yds fast fire. Good luck.... Good Shooting....
