Thumbs up XD9 5" 1650 Round Range Report

Ok guys/girls I got mine yesterday and stopped buy the local indoor range on the way home from work.

At the indoor range I put 100 rounds of American Eagle 115g with zero malf.. Shoots great! Mags are thumb killers though.

Today (just got back) I went on an AR15.com hometown shoot at a public outdoor range.
I started shooting some UMC (200 round pack). On about round 70 I had my first failure. Failed to chamber the last round.
I continued having this failure with one mag. I marked the mag to be sure. The follower causes the last round to bind against the mag body and the round does not fully raise for the slide to catch it, or the slide will hit the casing causing a jam.
I shot though what I had and switched to 200 rounds of Winchester white box (100 rnd. value pack). Problem still occurred and I lost count of how many times it happened.
I switched over to my remaining 100 rounds of American Eagle and had Zero failures.

Then I shot though 50 rounds of Rangers. I had one round not chamber. That round was a classic "Gun don't like hollow point's" problem. It was not the last round. The edge of the hollow point caught on the feed ramp and it stopped the slide.

Summary
The weaker the load the less snap and the more chance I have with my bum mag to have a problem on the last round. The snap of hotter loads causes the round to pop up to the correct position.

Hollow-points are probably going to take a little to get them running 100%. A slight bend in the feed lips of the mags to open them up a bit and I am sure it will be good to go.

The Ranger was a +P+ load and the gun has such a heavy recoil spring I can feel very little difference in the recoil compared to the American Eagle loads.

Oh yea I forgot to mention. I did not clean the gun during the test. It was shot right out of the box. I did run a bore brush through it a couple of times around round #350

Thanks
Samuel

My bum mag was fixed with a pair of needle nose pliers.
I just got back from the range.
I put 300 rounds of WWB (Wally World happy stuff) and 50 rounds of PMC I had left over.

0 malfunctions and the gun is feeling better and better the more I shoot it.

I am totally happy with this gun

I want to use this thread to keep a round count.
I have only been able to make it out a two times since my last post.

One range session I put 300 rounds of WWB down range.

On my last rage trip I only put 50 rounds down range (busy breaking in a Ruger MKIII w/500 round brick)

I got a week off the first week of January and plan to burn at least 500 of fresh reloads. Taking the wife too. I will try to get a pic or two.

So far 0 Malfunctions since my first range trip.

At round count 2000 I will get a machine rest and see what she will do.

LOL
I know, I should be banned! Between work, life, a 4 year old little girl, and money, sometimes you need to decide on what is more important.

I have more rounds under my belt at the age of 30 than most shooters get in a lifetime.

My little one turns 5 in February and she is going to get her own .22 for her B-day. That should help with my range time.
I am in currently gathering parts for her first AR-15/22 conversion. for her 8th B-day.

Samuel

Edit to add;
I have been to the range about once a month. But not with the XD. I own about 35 guns. They get rotated.
Long Guns/ rimfire/ handguns/ shottie's it's all good.

Edit to add old school black powder too.
