first FTE's today

Ok, I'm shooting today and had my first malfunctions. I have put around 700 rds through this gun now. After i shot last week, i didn't clean the gun besides running a bore-snake down the barrel a few times and wiping off the feed ramp. I figured "no big deal, this thing can shoot while dirty." But today, i was dissapointed to have 2 failures to eject with 115gr WWB. The casing was pulled about 3/4ths of the way out of the chamber, but then was stuck. Weird. It was like the ejecter catch slipped off the rim of the casing... IDK. What's the deal? MAYBE i limp wristed it. But i don't do that, and that's almost definately not the case.

Also, about shotplacement. I consistently shoot to the left. I've seen the chart about too little trigger-finger, but that doesn't line up with Todd Jarrets advice on the amount of trigger finger to use. Do you think since i have bigger hands, i would be justified with more finger on the trigger?

I'm 6'4" so I have pretty large hands. When I first started shooting my XD9SC I was using the pad of my finger and pushing the muzzle the opposite of the hand I was shooting with: left hand pushed right, right hand pushed left. I started using the first knuckle and shots started lining up as aimed. Very pleased. I guess it's a leverage thing with folks with long fingers. Good luck shooting!

I had two failures exactly like yours - both were UMC and probably a batch of bullets out of spec with some rounds that were manufactured slightly too big. I switched to another brand and never have had another problem.

I had the exact same amining problem, and like the advice already given, I put the trigger at the first joint of my index finger. I had been using the area of the index finger between the tip and the first joint. Since then, I'm much much more accurate.

230gr FMJ&JHP Ammo.

I don't start worrying until my guns start FTE 230gr Ammo. I am no expert but I notice more people have problems with the lighter bullets. I know this is a fact with 1911s. I would give it a good cleaning and some Breakfree on slide rails and lugs and give it another test.
