First shoot outside with XD

Traveled back to my parents this weekend, and found a guy who has his own outdoor range out on his land. Not sure how my dad found out about him, but anyway he called.. and said it was fine if we come out. Total stranger and he didn't know us and he said if nobody is home to go on back to the range and shoot. I was very suprised by that, very unsual to find such nice people. Anyway, I think it was a 100 yrd range, and maybe even more as it looked like he had targets set up way beyond up in the cliffs. I think we shot at about 25 yards, had a metal spinner target set up and some 12 oz pop cans full. I just had put a hogue grip on my XD40 and a dons guide rod with 22 lb spring. It's been about a 20 mph wind all day today and I had no problem bein pretty accurate. I do have to say that I love that grip, it made it so much easier shooting if you ask me. I'm still not sure about the guide rod, haven't tried the different springs yet to see if I can tell a difference. I wasn't too interested in losing the washer in a field in case it were to fall out.

Anyway, we shot at 25 yards and I'm not sure how many hits we had, but we had quite a few and you could tell the other shots were very close by the way you saw dirt kick up near it. Easily within the closeness to be able to hit a human sized target for sure. I one handed it from 25 yards and hit 7 out of 12 on a target that is maybe 9 inches across. Don't ask me how.. but I did.. i was shocked hah. The guy had a covered bench to fire from and I got to use my pistol rest and I now know for sure that my sights are on. Shot again at 25 yards and hit right where I was aiming for the most part. Needless to say, I was impressed by the XD. I think I fired almost 300 rounds through it today.

Also shot my dad's Taurus PT-92 I think, 9mm. I was suprised by the accuracy of it as well. Also it had been a while since i shot 9mm. I was shocked by how much more recoil my xd40 had compared to that. Then again it's an all metal gun and heavier and I think that had quite a bit to do with it. But dang, it'd be nice if my trigger was as nice as that gun's! DA on it I hate, but when it's in Single action it's light as hell and very little travel in it. All in all it was a great day, we spent about 2 1/2 hrs out there shooting. Can't wait til we come back to town again, now knowing I have a great place to shoot. Other than the hoodrat farm dog bringing a deer leg over to us, and 2 phesants which it appeared to have just killed.. it was a great day lol don't ask me where he got the deer leg from.. we still don't know.. somewhere in the canyons.
