Another 400 rounds down-range! Some issues.

I took my two XDs to the range again today and ran 200 rounds through each of them. I've come to a few conlcusions about the guns and my shooting, and I'm not sure I'm happy about all of them.

First: I love my XD-9 SC! I can point and shoot it with great accuracy out to 25' without breaking a sweat, and up to 25 yards if I try. I ran 200 rounds of 115gr FMJ through it, and I am confident that if I ever needed it (carry/defense), I could get the job done at normal "defensive" distances. This thing is no competition gun, but I'm really happy with it, and how I shoot with it.

Second: I can't shoot my XD-40 for ****! Let me rephrase... I can put all of my shots on the paper up to 25 yards, but they are ALL OVER the paper. I was looking forward to breaking in my DGR and 22# spring today, and while I did notice a huge improvement, I was still all over the place. To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I followed all the rules about breathing, trigger control, etc and I had some decent success, I just was nowhere near consistent from shot-to-shot, magazine-to-magazine.

I have been shooting both long guns and handguns for years and I've always been a decent shot with most every gun I've tried. For some reason, though, this XD-40 is giving me fits. And I'll be damned if I'm not going to do whatever it takes to shoot it well!

After I was done shooting, I was talking to one of the old-timers at the range who told me (after looking at my targets) that he thought I was pulling too much with my left hand. He suggested that I push a little harder with my right hand to compensate.

I don't think recoil or flinch is an issue, but I'm going to try 180gr loads next time I go shoot, just to see if that makes a difference (I finished-off my 165gr Blazer this trip), and I bought some snap-caps when I was leaving the range.

I also think that changing sights will help me a bunch with both guns. My eyes are terrible, even with my (brand new) glasses I have some issues acquiring my sight picture and getting it on target with the stock sights. I think TFOs will get bumped up my list of things to get, at least for the XD-40, but probably both of my XDs.

So anyway... My quest for accuracy continues. I refuse to admit defeat!
