A New Place to Shoot - XDTalk Forums

The FFL from whom I bought my XD(M) .40 operates his gunsmithing shop out of his home, and yesterday I went by to pick up my Ithaca Model 37 .16 ga. from him after he had tried valiantly to rescue it from my neglect. As we were talking, I was lamenting the lack of any decent places to shoot in the area. I told him that plenty of people have suggested places where I can go to shoot bottles and cans, but there's nowhere to hang up a target.

He asked if I had a few minutes to spare, and had me hop in to his little utility vehicle. He drove me down a couple of dirt roads, and when we stopped, there was a beautiful range, with a 10-foot high earth & RR tie backstop probably 60 feet wide. Steel reactive targets, and plenty of room to hang up paper targets.

"Feel free to use it anytime," he said. Took me about 18 hours to assemble a range bag with a staple gun, and a 6x8 tarp to catch brass, but I finally made it out at noon today. Fired 100 rounds, and below is my last target, a full magazine at about seven yards, fired slow. Today is a good day:

I neglected to mention that this beautiful place is less than eight miles from my home.

Nice. Wish I had something like that near home. Each of the ranges I visit have a couple pros/cons. Your new range sounds ideal. Congrats!
