My new XD-9 SC
I've been carrying a Sig SP2022 for several months but wanted to get a smaller carry gun for the last month or so. Had considered a few other models, but last weekend I started thinking about an XD Sub-compact, since I've owned an XD-9 for a couple years and have been very happy with it. A local shop had a reasonable price on a new XD-9 SC in bi-tone, and man did it look sweet.
I was never completely happy with my Sig P239 SAS .40 in bi-tone for a couple reasons, so I was ready to trade/sell it now. And I knew the value of that gun would get me close to the price of a new XD SC. Visited the gun show in Akron today to see if I could find a dealer to trade me straight-up for the XD (and had a few offers to buy the Sig) but no one had the gun I wanted, and I knew the shop did. Got the same price on trade that I'd been offered at the show, so it's all good. Now, before I did the deal I visited their range with my existing XD. It had been almost 8 months since I'd shot it, and I wanted to put a few rounds thru it to make sure I wanted another XD. Not that I had much doubt, of course! After 20 rounds I was convinced, but put all 50 rounds thru the old gun anyway, since it had been awhile. Then I went upstairs and went thru with the trade/purchase. I usually clean my new guns before firing them for the first time, but I couldn't wait. Went back downstairs, field-stripped the new gun to make sure there were no barrel obstructions and that it was properly assembled, then put holes in a fresh target. Wow. What a terrific gun, as we all know. Might be a little more kick with the smaller gun, but I shot it just as well as my other XD. I didn't keep my target, but I did OK, tho I'm pulling my shots 1"-2" left. I believe it's a flaw in my grip with the XD, as it's a little different than my Sigs - and it was the same with both XDs. Nothing some range time won't fix! I joked with the clerk that now I have to start all over. Run another 100-150 rounds thru the new XD, run/test some carry ammo thru it, and buy a new holster. Kind of expensive but necessary stuff for adding a new carry gun, but it's also kind of fun! I know you've seen 'em before, but since it doesn't exist with a pic here's a shot of the new gun:

Congrats! Nice looking gun. I just added an XD9 SC to my year old XD40 SC. Great guns!
Be sure to try out the Mec-Gar 18 round magazines in your SC. They are great magazines, cheaper than Springfield's factory mags, and give you two more rounds.

Went shooting with a buddy of mine today who has a 9mm Millinium. He shot my XD9 sc and said he might be buying a new gun on the way home, he loved it and shot it a lot better than his Tuarus.

Hit an indoor range Fri night - 150 rounds from 4, 7, 10 and 20 yards, with a variety of hands (righty two-hand & one hand, lefty two hand & one hand). Amazing how well this little gun shoots.
Sun. afternoon hit an outdoor range - 100 practice rounds and 20 Win. SXTs (aka Ranger T) to test before carrying - same deal with hands, plus shot from one-knee down kneeling, around a post to simulate cover (righty and lefty), moving side to side and backward, and some holster drills from the cheap Fobus paddle holster I'll be using 'til I get a DM Bullard leather holster (which I'm ordering tomorrow). Again, this gun is so easy to shoot and so accurate, esp. for a 3" barrel. Not that I'm surprised. My XD-9 Service has always been great, too. I believe I've made a terrific choice for a new concealed carry gun. |
