Fun at the range XDM 9mm / XD .40 / Springfield 1911 Long slide
Recently I went on vacation to visit my cousin. I brought my XD .40 Sub Compact and my XDM 9mm. My cousin brought out his Springfield 1911 .45 long Slide with 5" barrel.
So here are the results of my shooting. All targets were placed at 7 yrds. The black center of each white target is 5.75 inches across. It was my first time shooting a .45 cal pistol. I have found my next purchase! I Fell in love with the Springfield 1911 .45 Long Slide XDM 9mm 19 rounds @ 7 yards ![]() XD .40 Sub Compact 12 rounds @ 7 yards ![]() XD .40 Sub Compact 12 rounds @ 7 yards ![]() Springfield 1911 .45 Long Slide 7 rounds @ 7 yards ![]() Springfield 1911 .45 Long Slide 7 rounds @ 7 yards ![]() Springfield 1911 .45 Long Slide 21 rounds (3 clips) @ 7 yards

I wouldn't what to be the target!
BTW, it often helps to stay at about 7 yards or closer until you can consistently put all rounds in a very tight group. The move back to 10 then 15 then 25. Move back as you tighten your grouping. You'll be amazed at how tight you can keep your groups working this way. Then you can mix and match distances. However you practice, it is fun isn't it?

Oh I always enjoy practicing! I'm also still a novice. I've only had the XDM 9mm about 3-4 months now and the XD .40 Sub Compact 2-3 months. These are my first pistols and i have very little experience with guns period. I've got around 2000 rounds of practice now I guess. Probably would have helped if i had some form of instructing instead of just teaching myself. But hey i'm enjoying it and getting better. I'm also focusing on grouping at close range now that i have a better idea of what i should be doing.
Oh i'm also going to the range today!

dude i am with you on the next purchase being a 1911. I too have only had my xdm 9 for a short time, and I too recently shot a sa 1911 for the first time, and absolutely love that gun. That will definately be my next purchase. Nice groupings by the way.

Thanks im definately sold on the 1911. So different from my XD.40sc and XDm 9mm.
Funny thing is, that more and more my grouping with my XD .40sc gets better at closer ranges 7-15yrds then my XDm 9mm. My brother shoots better with my XD.40sc better up to 25 yrds then with his Beretta 92fs. Now for me at 25yrds or more with my XDm 9mm i shoot better groups or should say hit the target more. Still got a ways before i can look to the longer ranges. But i'll keep practicing. Right now my focus is on short range grouping.

Im right handed.
I tried shooting the 1911 like i do my XD.40 which is slightly low of center. Thats why im low on my shots. It took me some time to figure out its direct point and shoot. I was definately different then shooting anything else so far. ver very enjoyable!
