I'm new to shooting and I just purchased a 45 acp tactical, and the recoil is very managable.

I have only put 100 rounds of different brands and bullet configurations of 230gr. .45acp through my 4" XD-45, but they were very pleasurable to shoot. I have been a 1911 guy all my life and this gun shoots a little softer than the 1911's. I think the captive return spring system helps in that area. It is accurate and shoots to point of aim out to 25yards from the box. I just may become my CCW after another 500 or so rounds if the function stays consistient.

The 5 inch 45acp has more felt recoil and muzzle climb than the Glock 21 with Federal HST ammo. Having said that allow me to inform you that I sold my G 21 to get the XD. The features and ergomonics of the XD are far worth the slight increase in recoil.
