unfortunately, i have the same type of intermittent mis-feeds with both mags that came new with the gun

i suppose both magazines could be defective. i only sent one mag with the gun back to springfield. maybe that's a good thing...

I doubt it's the mags if both of them are doing it. Sending it back to SA was probably the right thing to do. The magazine trip for the slide lock is probaby out of whack.

For what it's worth, my XD 9 SC did the same thing until I called and they told me to try +P ammo. I have never had the problem since. The cycling of the slide must require a bigger push needed for proper feeding than non +P gives. Just a thought you might consider, it worked in my case.

The problem with that is that +P doesn't exist in the GAP world. The round is basically already loaded to +P in essence as it sits at the top of the SAMMI recommendations for pressure.

I doubt it's a cycling problem as I've went to a heavier recoil spring and if that was the problem I would have jams all the time and I don't.

I'm curious to see what the problem is with his gun when it comes back from SA.

I have had the same problem with my XD 45 acp. Only two times out of about 600 + rounds. Dirty gun? Maybe. Bad lot of ammo? Maybe. Operator eror due to slide catching sleeve or thumb? Maybe or maybe not.

SA had the right answers when I sent my XD 9 to get the sights adjusted to center. It was shooting high and to the right when I bought it new. A little adjustment in ammo (the +P I mentioned) and their suggestion to keep one slot empty in the extended mag for the spring to feed more consistently was right on. My point is the XD is accurate as is Springfield's advice in my experience. They are now refinishing my slide in OD and putting Straight Eight sights on so I am excited again. Good luck with the GAP -envious-

Well I hope he posts the fix that Springfield did, as my GAP just started doing the EXACT same thing. The slide locks back with rounds still in the magazine.

I'd like to know the fix.

As an update, I did get my gun back from SA. I had sent my XD SC 9 in for small scratches caused by their new molded holster not fitting properly... Doggonit. I just got my piece back from SA, and they did not install Heine's sights or the OD Armory Kote (AK) I had requested. Anyways, I was really looking forward to the new sights. They did however refinish my slide in AK black for no charge. The gun is unbelievable in that it points exactly to where my finger points with no gun in my hand. A great pointer, perfect! So I am happy to have it again. They did acknowledge they will reimburse my shipping charges, for this time and if I choose to send it back again for the upgrades.

Thumbs down

hey guys, sorry about the long interval between posts. here's an update from the FTF .45 gap saga:

my 4" .45gap XD is currently at springfield for the 3rd time, for the same problem. actually, the last time i shot it, i also encountered a new failure to feed, in addition to the regular problem with the slide stop. this time the round went into the chamber ahead of the extractor. the slide was not completely forward (battery not fully closed), so the loaded chamber indicator and firing pin were not extruded. the gun was jammed so tight, i had to have the help of two guys who work at the range get it open. this happened 3 days after i received it back from springfield for the 2nd time. so i sent it right back, and have asked them for a refund.

springfield keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with the gun. apparently their official position is it's operator error. they're blaming it on my thumb coming into contact with the slide stop lever during recoil. there's only one problem with that theory. it has also happened when i shoot left handed. i (almost) always shoot with a firm, two-hand grip, and i do not "limp-wrist". 3 other people have experienced the same problem while shooting this gun.

but according to springfield, there is nothing wrong with the gun.

needless to say, i'm incredible PO'd, and unless this situation is rectified, i assure you i'll never purchase another product from springfield ever again.

Sorry for your delima. I too own an XD45GAP. To
date, no failures.

However, your case bothers me as I use my 45GAP
for CCing. Any machine can malfunct at anytime, but
from what you report, you may have a lemon in yours.

Please do report on a followup. My take - I bet that
SA replaces your machine with a new one!

Ed
