Hey guys... this is a simple deal... IS THE SEAR UNSAFE? Are ANY of the standard safeties disabled or rendered less functional then with a stock XD if this product is used in the gun? We don't care about a shoot out between businessmen. We care about whether our guns are safe with your mods.

Bob... you are selling a product that alters a critical component of the standard XD. The burden of proof is on you. The claim has been made that your product makes the gun less safe. Demonstrate that the level of safety is equal to or greater than the XD without this mod.

Simple deal.

I don't think there is much to watch.

Daniel thought it was important to let folks know there was some false advertising going on from a vendor that chose to spam XDTalk and share what he learned from SA.

Bob, being proud of his design comes in and attacks Daniel and myself for affirming that SA contacted me with the same input.

I'm not going to put up with slander from Bob, but I'm not going to participate in his fantasies either. His reputation is what it is.

By welding the safety bar to the sear (or in this sear making it that way) there is no disconnect between the striker safety and the sear.

Simply put, it does not require the trigger to be pulled for the striker safety to be disengaged. ie. If you reach through the rear of the pistol and disengage the sear from the striker manually with a standard sear, the striker will never enter the the chamber, with the sear in question, it will.

Pissing contest aside the design does seem to present some minor safety issues. By fixing the safety lever to the sear you have removed some of the mechanism function. If the sear releases the striker for any reason the gun will fire.

The original two piece design required the trigger to be pulled to disengage the striker block. The one piece design allows the sear to do that independent of the trigger doing anything.

That said why would I want a one piece design? If I am doing a serious trigger job it seems the one piece design removes a degree of freedom in making adjustments to the trigger parts by removing the interface between sear and safety lever.

Given the reduction in safety (that amount of safety lost is arguable) I am not seeing how the performance trade off justify its design. You can create an equally good XD trigger and leave the sear and safety lever as two pieces thus not compromising the safety features in anyway.

By the way, Powder River has NEVER contacted me directly or indirectly about this, or any other product we make. The only time we have spoken was when he first released his safety lever and I called him with some questions about the material he used, and if it was cast or machined.

First thank you for validating my point about your sear not keeping all safeties fully functional.

Secondly I never claimed that I spoke to you. I said that I called the company selling this sear.
