I'm sure one could be affixed to your AK... however I wonder at the tactical advantage of having a long gun carried iwb. It seems that whatever advantage you gain would be offset by the trouble of having to use a "hand over hand (HOH)" draw method to get the weapon into action. Then there is the problem of having to decide whether to carry with one in the chamber or not. What about the bayonet? You may want to send the gun into Rich to see if he can work the trigger over a bit. It might be wise to get all the edges rounded off a bit, I'd hate to see you start chafing your ankle. I would personally lean towards putting tape grips on the weapon as well. You may want to just get a skateboard worth of grip tape. Good luck with this

How hard is it to get that tape back off? Would it clean up easily with a bit of alcohol, or will I have to boil the slide in burning pitch or something?

The first time I put it on the gun, I prepared the surface as directed, applied the tape and clip. It stuck on just fine, but then I realized I had it in the wrong position, grabbed it and pulled the whole thing off, no residue. I repositioned it where I wanted it and thats where it has stayed, using the original tape. If I remember right, the instructions say no residue is left, you pull off the clip and then grap the tape, pull or stretch the tape and it is supposed to all come off.
