Review: Midway Range Bag (w/ Pics)

I bought the Midway Competition Shooting Range Bag on sale for $39.99, looking for a carry-all for my range stuff that would beat the Gatemouth bag I was using. Here's a link to it:

MidwayUSA - MidwayUSA Competition Shooting Range Bag Nylon Black

I've included a bunch of pics below.

Here's the set you get for that $40:

There's the main bag, with all its pockets. There are a couple of what are described as pistol rugs, but they really are zippered bags with a nice lining inside. There are slots on each inside side of the main bag into which these can be inserted. There's a nice nylon drawstring bag for range brass, and finally a smaller bag that fits inside the main compartment of the large bag.

The main bag has pockets all around the outside, a zippered center flap that easily zips and unzips with two zippers connected by a lace. The end of that flap is secured by velcro. There's a nice heavy-duty carry strap, and two handles that are united by a velcro wrap. In the lower pic with the flap open, you can see the two compartments (on either long side) where the pistol rugs/bags are stowed.

There are very nice pockets all around the outside of the main bag. One side has room for a slew of magazines, as well as some elastic slots for tools, punches, and such.

The other sides have zippered pockets which open halfway down, and have double zipper pulls, a nice touch. There's enough depth for a small can of BreakFree CLP, cleaning rags, whatever. There's a slot for a business card or other identification on one end.

Finally, there's the interior bag:

It has two zippered compartments on either side, inside the bag; several small compartments on either end (I keep earplug hearing protection in them), and a couple of center-section dividers. You can see my earmuff hearing protection in the center. It has d-rings on the ends for attaching a shoulder strap.

***********

Everything in this range bag screams heavy-duty. It's a rugged bag, with room for tons of stuff including cleaning supplies, pistols (I could get 4 in here easily along with the other stuff), rags, hearing and vision protection, ammo, mags, you-name-it.

It's not often in this day and age that you get more than you pay for, but as some have described it, this bag seems to be worth 3x what Midway is charging for it (hooray for Midway!). I don't know for sure, as I'd never pay $120 for a range bag, but I'd buy this one again in an instant.

How would I rate it? I'd give it 6 stars, except that the rating system only allows 5 stars.

The MW bag is a great deal. For some it is almost too big. Very good review...

I have one those there bags. You can fit a ton of stuff in it.... If you bring more than one or two guns to the range this is a great bag to have. Bought mine for $39.99

I have one of these bags also. You could pack for a weekend with this thing and still have room for all of your guns. It is well worth more than they charge for this bag.

Yep it was way too big (read: heavy too when full) for my needs but it is indeed a great deal for what you get. I opted for a smaller one instead.

I finally broke under the pressure and ordered one of these. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist and I also ordered some other items I "needed" along with some ammo on top of that, so my wife is going to kill me.

I just use a regular black duffel bag that I won at a graduation party raffle- can fit a .22 pistol in there, my XD9 Tactical, and my binder with targets- I might make a switch to this if some spare cash comes my way, though.

I think I remember graduation. But it was too long ago to remember what happened.
