holster question

OK, I did some searching, but did not find the answer I was looking for. What I'm wanting to know is, If I get a Kydex holster for my XD45C, can I also use it on my XD9SC? I have a belt slide leather holster, and they both seem to go in it just fine. I seem to recall both being able to fit in both of the XD Gear holsters too. I'm just checking, because I'd like to get an IWB holster, but would prefer not to have to buy 2.

My inclination is to say you'll have to buy 2. I think it was a blackhawk kydex holster I was looking at a while back that claimed to be compatible with the XD45, 40 and 9, but I noticed a lot of rattle when I had the clerk put an XD 9 in the holster. I suppose you could tighten the retaining screw, but generally I've seen the 45 and 9 holsters sold as seperate units. Your best bet is to go to a shop that sells both the holster and guns and have them demonstrate it for you. I opted out of the kydex in favor of leather because mentally, I need the holster to fit like a glove.

I have one blackhawk and two blade-tech kydex holsters, one with a light one without, all work fine with ALL my XDs including my SCs and 45Compacts. They all have the same frame.

If you buy the holster for the XD45C then in most cases both guns will fit however if you buy the holster for the SC the chances are that the 45C will not fit. When you buy kydex look for holsters with an adjustment for tension, that will give you a lot more versatility.

I just checked the Blackhawk site, BLACKHAWK ! *BlackHawk CQC SERPA Holster - Active Retention - Matte Finish

and they only show one SERPA holster for the XD's

So from what I saw, one fits all, unless I missed something

They don't all use the same frame. The XD45's frame is SLIGHTLY larger. That is how they were able to do 13+1 in the XD45s and only 12+1 in the XD40s.

You do get some "play room" back and forth when using the XD9,40,357,and 45gap (they all have the same frames but not the XD45s) in the Serpa Holster but you can contact Blackhawk for a different rail spring that they will send you for free. It helps but doesn't make it perfect.

I use my Serpa for CC often but also use a Don Hume Open Top a lot also.

The only ones that I've found to fit the full line are the Crossbreed holsters, with their combo leather/kydex = because there's more "give" in the leather.

I've tried different kydex holsters with multiple tension screws, etc. (Bladetech, Blackhawk, Safariland). Never have found one the crosses over between the XD45 series and the others.

Wrong.
The 45C and the 9SC have the same widths in all areas of the frame and slide PERIOD.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE ( other than slide/frame length ) IS THE DEPTH OF THE GRIP FROM FRONTSTRAP TO BACKSTRAP AND EVEN THEN IT IS ONLY AT THE TOP BELOW THE TRIGGER GUARD.
I have many, I have put the calipers to them over and over again, they are the same.
The Croats made the differences on the INSIDE not on the outside.
