It looks like to me just for clearance of the Front sight, some might no draw the weapon up straight and this just reduces the chance of interference with the front sight, I am very interested in this holster let me know how you guys like them. I heard they are comfortable. how easy to secure or remove from belt, what clip to get, any info helpful.

Ok, so the reason I was initially worried was that I thought retention would not be good with that much material not formed to the slide. I have it on now and it is definitely retained lol :bier:
Overall, I like it. This is the first time I have ever worn my XD40 and it sits nicely on my Wilderness belt. I am a little frustrated that the belt has to be pulled tight and then tucked under the loop, then fastened to the other side of the velcro. What a pain in the butt. Its hard to get the "pull" side of the belt under the pants loop without grabbing the other veclro. Guess I'll get used to it or get a Beltman. I am now sitting on a squishy couch that I kind of sink into and it isn't even digging into me. I need to lose some weight, though. Getting out of the Corps was NOT good for me... Can't wait to get that permit and do my Walmart walk.

front sight clearence as stated plus they have to compensate for aftermarket sights as well which may be taller than the stock front sight such as the big dot sight for instance,it looks pretty friggn huge

Yep, mine looks exactly like that. Agree that the larger channel is there so front sights, especially non-stock sights, won't create a snagging problem.

mine looks like that, i might get suresights later on and put them on my SC then move the heines to the service. That hump is to prevent aftermarket sights from snagging

Blackhawk Serpa holsters have this too because of the front sight.
