I use Breakfree CLP to clean everything. If it is REALLY bad I will use synthetic safe gun scrubber. I use a boresnake for the barrel, then use a toothbrush, patches, and Q-tips to wipe all the dirtiness away. Once everything is clean, I lubricate the spring and slide rails with Hoppes #9. I will then put a very light final coat of Hoppes #9 down the barrel with a wet patch and exterior slide for protection. This combo has never given me any malfunctions with over 500 rounds.

I use Hoppes #9 on a patch through the barrel and a q-tip soaked in it for other places. Bore snake goes through the barrel once.

After that I hose it down with brake cleaner from Auto Zone. Haven't had a problem with this on my XD--the polymer comes through OK. On my 442 I take off the laser grips before cleaning. I don't use it on the wood stocks of my rifles.

I lube the slide with 3-in-1 oil and spray aersolized Teflon (e.g. SW Dri-Lube) into the internal spaces.

Give all the parts a light rub with an oiled cloth before reassemby, then reassemble and another rub down with the oiled cloth.

+1 but have not needed the compressed air yet. I don't get overly concerned about having my gun clean enough to eat off or. I like it clean but I am not going to spend hours to do it. 20 min tops, I also use a old silicon cloth and I leave my gun wrapped in it.

I prefer Hoppes Elite to clean, and GunButter to lube.

There is my $.02 worth.

Break Free also make a lubricant in a small 4oz. container that is strictly lubricant. I noticed my local gunsmith uses it and he highly recommended it. I also use Break Free or Hopps for cleaning and a thin layer of oil on the appropriate parts. Toothbrush and patches as well as Qtips.

You suggest using prostate examination gloves? Doesn't your gun fell...well...um...violated a bit?

I use breakfree CLP, have a spray can to clean out the gun and just wipe it fdown really good afterwards with lint free cloths

I use break free CLP in a pump bottle for bore snakes

Found a really cool denture tooth brush at supermarket that I use to scrub the barrel

I also found a graphite lube, NOT a oil or grease, (goes on wet and quickly dries in place) that I use on the slide rails.

+1 for Eezox, and gun butter on the high stress areas, such as the slide rails.

Wow! All of these "exotics". I just use Hoppe's #9 and RemOil. It's a duty gun. And, so far, no worries after, I dunno, maybe 8K rounds.

Not to say that one shouldn't provide extra love to those things most dear to them, but a prostrate exam is a bit much. LOL
