thebeltman question
First I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for making my search for a good gun belt much easier. Two things I haven't seen covered in great detail are whether the internal stiffener is needed for the beltman's 1 1/4" bullhide belts and whether to get five holes, 1" appart or 7 holes, 3/4" appart. I'll use my belt to carry my XD but hopefully I'll like it enough to wear it all the time. What are your thoughts or personal preferences about these two issues? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I'll be able to provide an informed opinion in about 2 weeks. Mine's on order at 1 1/4" and five holes. Right now, all I can say is that's what I've ordered since it's close to the belt it's replacing.

The stiffener depends on if you cinch your belt down really tight or just medium tight. On the bullhide anyway. If you cinch down tight you may not need the stiffener. It may help if you prefer to cinch down medium tight. Mine Beltman belt is a 1.5" horsehide and you certainly don't need the stiffener for the horsehide Beltman belt. I also think you should skip the stiffener on the bullhide belt if you prefer to wear the belt all the time. That alone calls for a compromise.
I wear a Gunners Alley 1.25 bullhide belt for my everyday life when I may carry or not. I've worn it daily for 8 months or so now and it still supports my K&D and Crossbreed holster really well and that's a 1.25" belt. If I'm packing up though and plan to carry all day I go for the Beltman 1.5 or the K&D 1.5 I have. As for holes, I've never found I need the 7 hole but I can see how it may be handy sometimes due to food intake, weight gain and loss on a normal basis and different holsters. I pretty much stick with the 5 hole though and really don't have any problems in my daily or weekly flucuations. My vote is you don't need the stiffener but that's just me. Good luck on your decision.

Thing is super stiff without the stiffener.
I'd could only see adding the stiffener if you carry a fullsize Desert Eagle IWB with a 1 1/4" belt. I got the 1 3/4" velcro cordovan (so it works with both brown and black) and its unquestionably the finest belt I've ever owned.

Thanks for your help. I just put in an order for a 1.25" cordovan bullhide belt so I guess I'll find out about them soon enough.
