I'm leaning towards the TLR-2 as well and think having the laser directly below the barrel is the best location for it. The CT's are off axis to the side so the POA of laser is going to shift right then left at varying distances. The placement below the barrel makes the shift up and down and I think that's a more natural compensation.

I do not claim to be an expert at all but I don't recall any of the operators I supported using lasers and they were a pretty busy, well thought of SD team. You can't use them for score in IDPA. In IPSC, you can only use lasers in the open category, so you would be in with the multiple k race and space guns. Lasers as a training aid to smooth your trigger pull makes sense, but honestly pointing at the TV which backlights the sight picture works well for that. It could be kind of hard to lead a moving target with them however. Quote:
Consider too that once the blush is off the new range toy, real life sometimes, unfortunately intrudes and one has times of only rare trips to the range, sad to say. Fortunately, few on this forum will actually need to test their equipment and skill in a life threatening situation, but for most that event will likely not be for years if not a decade or two from purchase. Will the batteries be good? Will an oxide layer have formed on the contacts? (And for those who have used, and will use their equipment in a professional capacity please accept my humble admiration, thanks and sympathy.) 99.9% of the time this all is a hobby and is supposed to be fun! Bottom line is if you want them, get them, but train with them and maintain them; alot.

I forgot I had posted here. I got the idea about the intimidation from reading reports from officers with lasers on there guns, and it got me thinking. I doubt the average criminal goes to the gun range, and pratices, so the likly hood of hitting the broad side of a barn is pretty low...But when that laser is on a target, that is where the bullet will go. Also, if the criminal doesnt hear, or see you, that lone dot will let them know that the end of their journey is close at hand.
At the end of the day, you should always practice without them to ensure that you dont rely on them too much, or if you have to pick up a strange gun, you might be in trouble. As for the Laser giving you away, there has to be lots of dirt, or smoke in the air for the full beam to be vivible. In a normal situation, you would probably just see the dot.

I have to agree with the consensus here in that it's better to train to focus on the front sight than getting used to looking for a laser dot. It's just better training. But there is a certain intimidation to lazing some would be attacker. If you want one for carry I would go with the Lasermax. I can't speak to the performance of the guide rod though. If it's just for dry practicing then go for a rail mounted light. They're cheaper and go on and off easier. As far as the crimson trace laser goes, I have found that sometimes your trigger finger can block it when outside the trigger guard. It also adds more bulk and alters the XD's grip which I think is perfect as is. I hope this was helpful.

IMO I don't anyone here is calling them "bad". I just think we are saying that the money is much better spent elsewhere.

Since the diode is on the grip (?), how far off point of impact and point of aim is the laser? At what distance did you zero the laser and the point of impact? I'd be curious to see a picture with a target 7-10 yards away, in full daylight with the sun somewhat behind you. Throw a red shirt on it too <G>. With my old eyes, I'm afraid I'd loose that little dot fairly quickly. I don't need to see the the x ring to know where it is on a silhouette. The laser could really help if you had to snap off a shot from close low ready before full presentation because your target was too close and moving in. Thanks again, cheers

This seems like a good laser system for a CC. its small, rail mounted and only $150 LaserLyte : Laser Bore Sighter : Sub-Compact Laser : Universal Rail Mount : Quick Detachable Laser : Universal Rifle & Shotgun : Gun Sight Accessories : Universal Lasersight : Bow Mount
Id love to hear from some one who has used this laser as I am planning on getting one at some point |

If you think that could be a problem then you may like the laser max because it pulsates so you don't lose it. It also comes in green which is supposed to be more visible.
