TFO instalation (Gander Mountain?)

I am about to purchase some TFOs. However, I don’t know who to have install them. There is a local gun shop where the owner works on guns. He does a lot of work on glocks. He said that he can do it but that it is difficult to do on an xd, as it is hard to get the sights off. I also asked at Gander Mountain, they can do it there. Can I trust Gander Mountain gunsmith??? I figure that if they break it they probably will replace it. I just don’t know what route to go??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Two of my local gun shops have said that the getting the front sight off an XD is difficult; one shop has a resident gun smith who said he had changed sights on XDs a number of times and had the tool needed to remove the old sight. I'd ask the guy at Gander Mountain how he intended to remove the old sight and see what he says.

Why not contact Springfield's custom shop (email: customshop@springfield-armory.com ) to see what they would charge to mount a set of sights that you provide? They will also sight in and test fire your gun with the new sights.

Here's a link to their Custom Shop worksheet page (see lower left corner)

Don't take any chances. Check out our forum sponsors. I'm sure many of them could do it for you. It's worth it to send it to someone who has done many XD's versus getting your slide messed up.

If you ship your slide, use UPS and insure it for the price of the gun.

Good Luck.
