Anyone had their cocking serations modified??

I really like the "snake skin" looking cocking serations on some of the custom Smith and Wesson pistols. Does anyone know of a company or individual who could machine these into my XD?? I was toying with the idea of maybe shallowing out the existing rear cocking serations to make a little depression and have these serrations put in. I figured this would aid in wet/slippery conditions and take some of the blocky look out of the XD. Also, if I did shallow out the existing serrations, would the loss in slide mass dictate the need for a stronger recoil spring?? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the pattern people do when they stipple?

maybe posting a picture would help....

I'm sure it could be done but it probably wouldn't be cheap. Also, I don't think you would be removing enough mass to make a difference.

Look up a Smith and Wesson Performance Center 945. I tried to up load the image I have of it but I guess it's too big. That's what I get for setting the camera to "raw"

I am looking into doing something similar with the rear serrations on my Kimber SIS Custom. The issue isn't gonna be the mass of the slide, but the thickness of the slide after first cutting out the existing serrations and then adding a new serration.

I dunno where you can get that specific pattern. It is gucci, though.

Yup, thats the design i'm looking for. I figured after getting the work done I would have the slide finished in a Duracoat "grey wolf". I am already getting the grip stippled, adj target sights, trigger job done, new barrel in 400 corbon, and the factory 45 barrel re-crowned. My plans are to use this gun as my "Big" carry gun and keep my Kahr MK9 as my ankle gun.

Ok, I just sent Springfield Armory (Custom Shop) an email asking about the cocking serration mod. I also spoke to a local machinist who is going to talk to one of his machinist friends who happens to be good with guns. It seems to all fall down to one question. Is there enough metal on the slide to do what I want safely without ruining the XD and forcing me to by a Glock......kidding. I will keep you posted on the results.
