Custom trigger replace? how?

Thinking about ordering a trigger kit from either Canyon or Springer
Is there in any info on the process to change all the parts. I want to reduce travel and lighten to 2.5 pounds or so. I have done trigger work to
rifles etc and consider myself fairly handy. IS this something I should be able to handle or better off leaving to professionals?????

Keep in mind that the Canyon Creek kit includes just springs. The Springer Kit includes both the springs and the sear. There is a difference.

The basic step is to go with the springs. If you want to get more than just a lighter pull, the Springer Kit may be a better option for you.

I think this is what you are looking for Springfield Armory XD and HS2000.com

It is going to take more than just changing the springs to get a 2 1/2lb. trigger on an XD. Remember this is a striker system therefore more linkage than you have on a rifle or a 1911. A trigger pull of 3 - 3 1/2lbs is probably do able with springs and polishing. Listen to Old School you will probably want to change the sear any way to reduce the pre-travel, but the Springer Kit is not drop in.

The sear IS drop in the trigger bar is NOT it is file fit, you won't get 2.5#'s for sure.

Actually, the Springer Precision kit is drop in, not to be confused with the other kit on the market.

i was able to get 3.2 averged over 5 pulls with polishing and JUST the springs from CCon my xd40 service
i also have the springer kit on my 45 service which tested at 4.1

but to be fair the 45 has a harder pull even when i used the CC springs in it the springer kit is great! the pre travel was amazing and the trigger let off was VERY crisp. even though my 45 has a heavier pull the springer trigger kit makes the trigger very nice and i do like it more then the CC springs.

here is exactly what each gun has
xd40- service = CC spring kit and polishing of all internal parts to a mirror shine, stock trigger
trigger has a long travel with a 3.2lb pull (i would rate it 7 out of 10 as far as xd triggers go)

xd45 service= springer sear kit, polished internals of all internal parts to a mirror shine. a "homemade" over-travel stop on stock trigger bar
trigger is very short and crisp with zero over travel with a noticably lighter then stock trigger pull (i would rate it 9 out of 10 as far as xd triggers go)

you MIGHT be able to get a 2.5lb trigger on a full custom trigger but i dont think would be able to get that with a drop in kit. 2.5 lb isnt unreasonable with the xd 9mm,40,357 since i was able to get 3.2 with just the CC springs but on a 45 i think it would be tough since in my experience the 45 has a heavier trigger even when using compriable parts

Well, call me confused. With all the trigger kit options and prices, I'm confused.

The Springer trigger can be bought either directly from SpringerPrecision.com or from pistolgear.com. Springer lists the bar but without the striker and striker safety springs. Pistol gear sells the kit with the two missing springs, but sells the bar separately. Therefore, the Springer kit can be bought either as drop in or not. If you do get the trigger bar, you will have to file the ends to fit it.

Drop in kits.
Canyon Creek. Nice kit. Easy to install. $20 from PistolGear.com.

Springer: Without the bar, the Springer kit is a little lighter trigger pull than the Canyon Creek kit, and comes with a special sear. It is also available at PistolGear.com for about $80.

So, for drop in kits you can go Canyon Creek or Springer. For the money, I'd go with the Canyon Creek, but the Springer is lighter, and does have a cleaner trigger. The Springer kit does shorten the pull and reset some due to the sear.

Fitted/modded kits.
Springer with trigger bar. The trigger bar is easy to fit with a little filing. It greatly reduces pre and overtravel, as well as lightening the trigger pull. This runs from $130-$140.

PowderRiverPrecision.com with a non-fitted, non-drop in. You have to drill and tap your trigger bar, but that's not difficult. This kit completely eliminates pretravel and the screw you tap into the trigger bar allows you to adjust out overtravel. The trigger spring and sear spring reduce the necessary pull. This trigger comes in at $35 for basic, $60 for match, with the match having a lighter pull.
PowderRiver Trigger mod (video)

I have a Springer in my XD9, a Canyon Creek in my XD40, and a PowderRiver in my XD 45.

My recommendation: PowderRiverPrecision.com, for competition and carry if you live in a Castle Doctrine state, is the best for the money. But you have to get used to having no takeup. But if you just wanna lighten the trigger and have a nice safe carry gun, with the same ugly trigger, then Canyon Creek. If you want a good carry, with a clean trigger, go with the Springer sear, springs, and bar.

CAVEAT: If you don't live in a Castle Doctrine state, the Powder River option may not be for you. It has no pretravel other than taking up the trigger safety. And then there's the adding a hole and putting in a set screw. Won't make for a good carry gun when you may have civil liability.

The good news is that there are getting to be more highly skilled folks making Gucci stuff for us to pimp the XD with.

You can get more pre-travel with the Powder River Kit by removing material a shown here: Very light primer strikes.... Without removing material the pre-travel is pretty much eliminated using the Powder River Kit.
