I have Crimson Trace laser grips on my J-Frame S&W 'snubbie,' and lots of dry-fire practice has turned me into a pretty good double-action shooter, with all my double-action and striker-fired handguns, including my XD45. Nearly all my practice with the laser is dry-fire. When I take the snubbie to the range, I practice with the iron sights only, until the last cylinder-full. Prior to the laser sight, I thought that a snub-nosed .38 was only fit for knife-fighting ranges. Now I am completely confident with it out to 10 yards, and I can easily hit a pie plate sized target at 15 yards. Once you have improved your grip and trigger-control to the point that you can squeeze off the trigger, without any significant movement of the dot, you can shoot almost anything accurately, with or without a laser. |

Installing the lasergrip
You convinced me! I got my CT lasergrip but I have one question. How hard was it for you to get the pin into the clip? I'm having a difficult time pushing the pin into place.

I got the pin most the way in but I read in the instructions to remove the grip when cleaning the gun. I planned on cleaning my gun in a few days! Hey I'm in GA too! Just applied for my CW permit. Will be taking my XD for its' inaugural trip as soon as I get it.

And yes, its a a pretty tough pin to set into the hole. No big deal though, just tap it consistently firm each time and it will set in fine. I have been to the range with it a hand full of times, indoors and outdoors. This would be my first report of its use. It works great. At the outdoor daylit range, you can make out the laser dot a fair distance away. At the indoor ranges, the dot is stupidly visible. There was a little tweaking that was neccessary to get the laser to match with the hit point (forgive my weak gun vocabulary) but once that was done, it was a matter of simply putting the red dot on the target and pulling the trigger smoothly. With steady hands, you can "trace" the dot down from the recoil of the last round to target and just pull the trigger again, it is just too easy now with the laser to hit the body of the target. I had tweaked the laser to a target at 75ft thinking that if the laser was adjusted to that distance, that it would be on point at a more reasonable defensive distance (~25'). At 75ft, I would land 90% of my shots in the body of the silhouette once the laser was honed in. Well, I dont know for sure if thats the case. The laser will be to the right of the hit point at a closer distance after having it tuned to a further one. I think this is because the laser exits the weapon on the right side instead of the center (below barrel). Thus, at a closer distance, the laser is aimed a different angle than at a longer distance. Becuase the laser exits the side of the weapon, the laser and the barrel "cross" paths. By tuning the laser to a target at 25 feet, in reality, youre tuning the laser to cross paths with the bullet at 25 feet. Thus, if youre tuned to target at 75ft, it will fire left of laser at 25ft. But even so, the distance/degree of change is just inches. In my case, about 6 to 8 inches from target. Ultimately, its probably still deadly. ![]() The grip is SOOO natural. My buddies handling the XD for the first time thought the pistol grip safety was the activator for the laser, not knowing what it was. You just grab and point. The front sights almost become obsolete as your eye trains on the red dot and where it is on the target or in a real life situation, you eyes train on the bad guy and where the red dot is on him. At worst, the laser gets EVERYONE's attention at the indoor ranges becuase its uber bright AND what happens when smoke from the other weapons there clouds and fogs up the range? You get a glowing red laser stream from weapon all the way to target that everyone sees, haha! |

Thanks for the update Project7Studios.
So I guess a person needs to consider at what distance the situation would call for to shoot a person when adjusting the laser. Would it be close quarters, 25 ft, or longer distances, 75 ft. Personally I would target 25 ft. If you're in a 75 ft situation you'll have more time to correct your shoots anyway, if the person is stupid enough to continue running toward you while you're shooting at them. I tried the laser out in the backyard at night and it seemed to continue on indefinitely. I guess it makes sense since you hear reports of pilots seeing lasers in their cockpits. Amazing technology.
