OC with your XD Gear holster?
I am starting to OC and had a question about holsters.
The only OWB holster I have is the XD Gear holster that came with the gun (I have it tightened almost all the way). Would you recommend something a little more robust, or am I good to go? I am planning on getting a better OC holster, but can't afford it right now.

I wouldn't trust it, but it may work for you. I would wear it around the house A LOT before you wore it in public. Put it through the paces and see how it works for you. I would suggest looking at a Blackhawk Serpa. Here is one for $40 shipped.

I use mine occasionally. I also bought one of the XD Gear Paddle holsters. I use that one alot more. When you get the $ though. I'd deffinitely suggest getting a better one.

I prefer at least some type of paddle holster when I OC, I feel more secure. My first was the XD gear paddle my FIL gave me with my first XD. I felt the belt XD version was a little unstable.

I bought a Blackhawk CQC because it was inexpensive and I could switch from belt to paddle style with just a few screws. I tried using the regular belt XD gear holster once and it was not good.

I wore the freebie holster (w/ gun of course) around for 5 hours yesterday afternoon, it was alright, but could have been a bit more solid.
Thanks for the input! I called my local shop and they have the Serpa in stock for $42.00, I will go check it out tonight (as well as some paddle holsters). Tax return should be here next week, I can just throw it onto the charge card until then.

The freebie is ok until you get something better, but not much else.

I picked up the Blackhawk Serpa on the way home from work, tried it out in the shop and have been wearing it running errands for the last hour or so (paddle configuration). Initial impression is great! I think this is going to work out really well for OC -- now I just need to pick up my crossbreed supertuck for CC and I will be all set!

I have a CQC but when I first started to OC all I really had to do the job was the stock holster. It was alright but with no retention device I was iffy about using it in places like grocery stores and such.
I've used it for USPSA shooting a few times and it was good for that becuase it was a simple pull and shoot. It sits in my range bag now just incase someone needs a holster for some reason.
