Night sights & tac. light - Impractical or not?
Does anyone use both night sights along with a tactical light for whatever type of shooting it is you do? If so please discuss how this benefits your target acquisition. Does anyone out there find this to be unnecessary or impractical?

I have both trijicon yellow rears green front and a TLR-1 on my XD40 and I can still see the trijicons glowing bright even though I had the TLR-1 on at night. The TLR-1 is a pretty white/bright light. I only put the light on when it is tucked into my night stand safe or when I am out hog hunting at night.
I would always use a flashlight to blind an intruder and the use of night sights like trijicons means faster acquisition at night. With my family's life's in stake I will be glad that I have everything I need on my gun to dispatch of the BG. For target practice I sometimes leave the light on the front as the gun does shoot a little different since you have added weight on the front IMO

I had night sights installed at the shop (I didn't want to wait for factory-installed) and later bought a TLR-2 - which I carry attached to by magazine holster (the one that came with my XD, as it has the rail mounts on both ends) - and I can take it off there and put it on the gun in about 30 seconds.
I shoot with it at the range every so often, more so using the laser just as a guide for seeing how much I'm able to hold steady, and just as 'dead weight' so I get used to it that way as well.

IMO that combo makes a good nightstand setup.

I don't see having both as impractical. Having night sights doesn't help you if you can't tell what you're shooting at and being able to see the target doesn't mean you're going to hit it. I see them as working in tandem, especially in a home defense situation. I've heard several stories about someone waking up in the middle of the night thinking someone had broken in, going to check on it, then killing a family member because they thought it was an intruder.
At the very least, I'd say keep a good flashlight with the gun and know how to use them together.

Have both on my weapon for work trijicon night sights and tlr1. Need the light for a quick target id and then sights for a good sight picture. I only use the light for a second to id then pick up the target with the sights. Try to remain tactical.

My black XD9-SC is my night-stand gun. It has Mepros and the XML. When I take it out to the range I take the XML off to save it from the recoil shock so it lasts as long as possible. BOTH night sights AND a tac light is a good idea cause you just never know when the light/battery will fail. The light also makes a great aiming guide in a panic situation it lines up pretty darn well with where my sights point. Put the light on the BG and pull the trigger even if the rest of you is just peeping around the corner.

i also have trijicons green/green along with an X2L. i also have the new Crimson trace laser for the XD(mines the .40 subcomp). right now if im using both the lasers are zeroed to the same distance, but i am going to calibrate them so as to have the lasr on the X2L is zeroed around 7-10 yards as most likely if im using the light they would be in my house and therefore pretty close to me already. then im going to do the CT grip laser for distances out to about 30-40 yards. that way i know where my round is going, can change targets faster and not worry about making the correction for the extra distance. plus , just my own opinion, if i saw two laser dots i would likely think there were two people, two guns pointed at them. i know i would likely react that way.

My home defense gun is an XD45 Service with TFOs and an M6 Laser/Light combo.
