Replaced the sights on both my Steyrs with 3 dots. I don't see where these would be any different.

My experience with SureSights has been excellent. It actually feels like a chore to use notch and posts now.
Check out SureSights' subforums for information on their upcoming release of the next generation (to include a tritium option). I don't work for SureSight or have any special interest in the company, I'm just very happy with the product and their customer service. |

SureSights are fine
SureSights are based on visual gestalt. Our eyes want to complete shapes whether it is a line or a triangle. I'm not convinced that identifying a line is quicker than identifying a triangle, but I seem to do fine with either.
Don't worry about the rear sight being blurry and not being able to complete the shape, it truly is not a problem; just like it's not a problem for completing an iron-sight sight picture. I went to FrontSight training with my SureSights newly installed and having only shot 100 rounds with them beforehand. They were not at all problematic. The fit my Crossbreed SuperTuck and my BladeTech holsters without modification. They look huge (an advantage), but aren't. That's just how noticeable they are! Here is my range report after my trip to Front Sight. SureSight range report |

In our testing (with experienced shooters and novices) shooting a notch and post sight (where the rear sight was removed) provided the same results as the ATS, SS, and other prototype "shape" sights. I've also been fortunate enough to have these "sight" conversations with some of the best shooters in the world. I just wanted to pass on that info, as they have all spent way more time and money testing these ideas that the average shooter would do in 100 life times. As with anything, if you think something is the way you want it, go for it.

Loves2Shoot - How did the shaped sights work out with novice shooters? Was there a noticeable improvement over traditional 3-dot sights for beginners? If so, would you consider the improvement to be substantial enough to outweigh the inherit placebo effect?
Sorry, for bringing this post back from the dead... |

I don't think I could really get used to either of those sights. Standard iron sights are second nature to me. I'd have to re-learn the way I shoot in order to use these.
Just my $0.02.

I have the Sure Sights on my XD. Installation was interesting to say the least, but I guess that's why it's worth paying the smith.
I like the sure sights too. I do double tap drills out of the holster at the range, and at 15 yards I can usually keep it in the 8 on a B27. I tried these with the factory sights, and I was shooting arms and ..... man parts. I say the Sure Sights, but I have had limited experience with other types.

Many people (even people who consider themselves experienced shooters) do not understand how to use their sights efficiently. I'm amazed at how many will spend money on "stuff" and not get training that would give them a real improvement.

Well, I have to admit that I am looking into options for sights as my eye sight has gone down as I age. Focusing on handgun sights becomes harder as you age without the fact that my eyesight is no longer 20/20. I will look in these new sights. I have just found these as well.
