Concealed carry bags
I'm thinking about getting a bag + holster combo to carry. I use a laptop bag now for work and my wife always talks about how I need a pocketbook (purse), so I'm think this would be a good investment. I'm looking at the Crossbreed CCSB and the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack. I really like the look of the Crossbreed but wanted to get some opinions on both.

That is one way to go but might not be the best option. Remember, any encounter will more than likely take place at close range with little to no warning. According to knowledgeable sources in the personal defense training arena, you will reliably need to be able to draw your weapon and get the first shot off in no more than 2 seconds.
This is the yardstick I judge my holsters and carry methods by. If I can't get the gun into action within 2 seconds then its not acceptable to me. There will be who disagree with me but one of the things I learned at Thunder Ranch was when that personal defense moment comes, it will likely be when you least expect it and it will happen with very little if any warning. This is the situation you need to train for. Just my .02 cents for what its worth. |

If you really need enough stuff to carry that bag it is one of the best optoins. I've got a Maxpedition backpack that I carry daily and it rocks. Very tough and the MOLLE/PALS webbing makes expanding the storage capacity easy. I ride a motorcycle and know that carrying on your body isn't always an option. I usually drop it in the CC pouch on the front of the pack and keep the bag on my body.

![]() The gun was in the pocket in this picture when I was going on a Toys for Tots run. ![]() The pocket also doubles as a hydration bladder pouch but I never have a hydration bladder in there. Maxpedition sells a holster that velcros into the pocket along with a mag holder that goes there. Inside that pocket are two strips of velcro that the "modular" accessories can stick to. ![]() Don't get me wrong with their backpacks there is no real way to have it in the bag AND have easy quick access to it. Their sling bags and Murses are most likely a diffrent story as your hand is right in the area of the zipper and such. On the motorcycle I figure I can ride away from any situation that may occur. I also always keep my BH Holster with paddle attachement in the bag with me. My everyday carry bag is my bug out bag that I have with me all the time.

Thanks. I'll have to look into Maxpedition more.

Did you ever make a decision on this CrossBreed bag? I've got my eye on it and did a search and found this thread....

another nice one to consider is the camelbak demon backpack. probably not as fast a draw as the maxpedition jumbo but decent.
i have the jumbo and it's a great bag. i also have their MPB if you want more of a briefcase/small laptop bag. very easy to mount a holster on the velcro divider. the jumbo is great for off body carry but i inherently have a problem with off body carry. in the event i'm mugged/robbed, the perp's #1 priority is going to be separating me from my bag. if my gun is in the bag, that is BAD. i'd rather give up the bag while retaining my weapon. |
