Recommend me a shoulder holster
Can anyone recommend me some shoulder holsters for my 9mm XD (16 round)?
How much do they usually cost? This will be for daily carrying. Thanks |

I was very recently wondering the same for my XD 40. I would like to carry underarm for the times that IWB isn't the best option for me.

You have several options but I would get a quality holster from someone like Galco. I bought a Galco Miami Classic for my Sig P228. I don't wear it much as I don't find it all that comfortable and I find that what you wear is much more important as they can easily "print" your handgun if you are not careful.
In addition, I just didn't find the draw that natural and having to reach across your body to gain access has its problems as someone could simply pin your arm to your chest if they are close enough. Everyone is different but I found the presentation from a shoulder holster to be somewhat clumsy. I have to admit, I find shoulder holsters sexy, but for me, strong side carry is the most efficient for getting the weapon out and is more concealable and comfortable for day to day carry. That being said, there are situations where they have an advantage such as if you are traveling in a car and sitting a shoulder holster does has a real advantage over a strong side belt holster. Bottom line, I had to go through a lot of holsters before I settled on the type that works best for me and everyone is different. Try it out and see what you think but if you are going to use one, don't scrimp and fork out the money for a good one. Good luck. |

I pretty much agree with Verk the shoulder holster is not that easy to conceal especially the horizontal carry ones. Alessi is suppose to make the best but there is a very long wait and I don't think he has his own web site. Fist makes a very interesting vertical carry holster with a pull through retention system which requires no thumb break.
http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/holster/70.htm Not cheap as you buy the harness, holster, and mag carrier separately. Still this may be the only shoulder holster I would be interested in.

If you have a blackhawk holster I think blackhawk makes a shoulder holster platform you can attach it to.

Second the Galco. One thing though,
a shoulder holster is not for everyone. It appears to be an efficient means of transportation for your machine and extra mag, but it takes some getting used to. I prefer the vertical machine carry vs. the horizontal carry. Ed |

Listen to these guys...shoulder holster are personal, some like em, some dont. If you do a lot of driving, the shoulder holster is the way to go, much more comfortable than the IWB's. The shoulder holster does take some getting used to and you have to pay more attention to what you wear for concealment. I have the Galco Miami Classic, nice, but there are comparable options out there. Spend the money on leather and stay away from the cheapo nylon shoulder holsters.

The Galco Miami Classic is still offered but the improved Miami Classic II is a better choice for a couple of reasons.
The MCII harness is wider across the shoulders, something like the SSII harness, and its much more comfortable for all day carry. The open-face, forward facing HCL mag carriers are faster and easier to access. There is also an option for a similar mag carrier with an extra position for a Surefire or similar light. That's probably the best all around choice for comfort and concealment.
