Springer factory mods?
Like all responsible hand gun owner the first thing I think about as soon as I buy a new gun is my next gun.
The second thing is how to make this great fitting gun ( XD 9 tac) fit even better. So with that in mind I went browsing the Springer site. Does anyone know anything about their "high hand relief modification" What exaclty do they do to the gun? Is it worth it and is the gun still IDPA leagal? I will call Springer of course but I want to hear something else other than the official party line. I am also considering their "custom high grip modification" so if anyone can shed some light on that it would be great! |

Grip mods are legal in IDPA. And, unlike other SSP legal guns, you don't have to worry about having to change divisions..since the XD's are only allowed in ESP or CDP.

Are you sure that's definitive, or is it your interpretation?
The rulebooks states in the ESP Division inclusive list of allowed modifications that grips are included. This means that you can change grips out (on something like a Beretta or Sig), or stipple the grips or change the grip shape on an XD or Glock. (Page 21 of the current rulebook) But the "high hand" modifications I've seen on most guns are actually reduction to the material at the bottom-rear of the trigger guard (and not the grip itself). Strict interpretation of the rules would make this illegal since trigger-guard or frame modifications are not included in the inclusive list. This is probably splitting hairs, and I would imagine that nobody would ever call you on it...but that doesn't mean that they can't. Best, Jim |

It is a good point. I guess I'll e-mail Springer and see what they say. |
